As for 13 years, it's actually 14 years of Wilf ownership that marks the down period. They snooker the fanbase with their "we want to win, we're big fans" rhetoric which is not reflected in the events on the field most of the time.
They fiddled around with bad hires and the stupid t.o.a. and now that they have relative competence since 2012 in RS, fans want his head all the time. They don't think about the real possibility that it could get a lot worse than being competitive which we are now mostly, given the Wilf's propensity to make terrible shoot from the hip hires--see Foley, Chili, Les--all hired without interviewing so much as a single other candidate or really doing any serious homework or even engaging themselves in a serious thought process. Imagine their next g.m. hire on that basis... then you will have someone new to perpetually gripe about.

Well hearing that he wanted to squeeze you is no surprise, squeezing and/or ripping people off is the Wilf's m.o. It's their personal bad karma which I think carries over to the franchise, bad things befall them. But that's just my take, ymmv.
As for RS being a shoot from the hip hire, I don't know, could be. It was so long ago I have no recollection, he wasn't really a headline hire anyway, being brought in as a personnel manager not a a titled g.m. or a guy on the field. But regardless I think he's at least competent, has produced a good roster and hired a decent coach, we are competitive and expectations are that we get into the playoffs which I can't say for every team out there. I'm aware he has faults and could do better in some areas.
I also recognize that you are angry about him but I'm really not sure Wilf could come up with better based on his track record. If there's going to be a change I'm guessing it will be Zimmer at some point but that day hasn't arrived. Wilf has never struck me as the type who pulls a quick trigger on change. He might pull it when making a bad hire but once he's got a guy in place that guy has to really fuck up ala Chili 2010 to get him to do something about it.
Pretty sure firing Les was RS's idea, and that he actually wanted to do it the minute he was hired in 2012 but Wilf made him give Les a longer term chance so... Wilf firing RS seems like a longshot, like something really bad would have to happen, maybe losing 12 games next year or the like. I just don't see that with Zimmer and decent roster, even though we had a problematic year this year. I think next year will be much better, that's my hope at this point anyway.
