Whether he becomes their Head Coach, or takes another OC job, I feel in my gut that he is gone and it will be by his own choosing. I think Zimmer screwed the pooch last year with how he handled the OC opening. He preached loyalty and said that he was not letting Stefanski go to the Giants because he was loyal to him by keeping him on the staff when he took the Head Coaching job, yet he brings in an Outsider to run the offense that had zero history with the organization which was a disaster and blew up in his face. He wasn't good enough for the Vikings OC job, but he wasn't going to let Shurmur have him either. What a fucking hypocrite.
I don’t think loyalty means you have to give them a
promotion if they aren’t the best suited for the job.  He just saying he should be loyal to the team
by finishing out the contract and position he signed and agreed to uphold, and
he’s also communicating that he’s too valuable to let leave, which is sort of a
compliment.  I think that in Zimmers mind having Flip + Stefanski is
better than having Flip + unknown QB coach or Stefanski + unknown QB coach,
especially when it was thought that Flip would leave after 1 year.

I also don’t think that
Zimmer preventing him from leaving automatically means he’s pissed at Zimmer
and wouldn’t take the position here.  I
do think he’s going to probably interview and take any OC or HC job that’s
available to him, so we can’t rest on our laurels.

With your logic, then he wouldn't have let Shurmur leave and would have made him finish out his contract as OC. That's just not how the league works. When Coaches get an opportunity for a promotion, you either give them a similar role in your own organization or you wish them well and let them leave for a better opportunity. He did neither. He interviewed him for OC, blocked him from going to New York for a promotion, but ultimately hired an Outsider who wasn't the right fit for a lot of reasons.

Zim pleaded guilty today that he probably didn't do enough due diligence on Flip to make sure they were both on the same page with Offensive Philosophy during the hiring process. You just can't make that shit up. Zim has proven again this year that the Peter Principle is in full effect.

If you and Greed are happy with Zim's performance and think he is the right guy to get us a Championship, then I can respect that. For me personally, and for a growing numbers of posters on this board, they have seen enough and are ready to move on.

By the way, the Browns moved up Stefanski's interview to today so there definitely seems to be some strong interest and steam behind his abilities as an offensive mind and a potential head coach. Like I said earlier, I think he is gone and can't get out from under Zimmer soon enough, and now Shefter is reporting this afternoon that Hue Jackson to the Vikings as OC is very strong possibility. I wouldn't let him anywhere near my offense but that's what Zimmer is comfortable with. Surrounding himself with guys he used to coach with. Zimmer and Spielman are dead men walking into the last year of their deals. I hope he proves me wrong, but I don't seem him fixing the problems that will get this team into the playoffs next season based on his track record so far.

I don't believe you can block an assistant from interviewing for a HC job.  But many do block assistants from interviewing.  Billicheck is a prime example.  Didn't he block the Colts last year?  Or was that Josh McDaniel being a putz?  Anyway, there is no rule that sez you have to let an assistant that is leaving for a HC gig to gut your staff.
And I find it funny that people will bitch about Zim not disclosing every detail and then ripping him when he is candid about his failure.  The guy is very upfront and self critical, but that isn't good enough for some.  I find his leadership to be refreshing and honest.

Correct,  all contracted employees can be blocked unless they are interviewing for a head coaching position.  This was all covered last year when it happened.

And we are interviewing Hugh Jackson for OC in place of Stefanski?

I am really losing faith (only 43 years) in this organization and Zimmer.

That was McDaniel doing a 180 after accepting the job. Good thing for the Colts he did. Reich has been a great hire for them. Being candid is one thing, but admitting that you didn't ask all the right questions during an interview of the person you are going to hand over the keys to your offense is inexcusable. Like I said, I can respect that you find his leadership to be refreshing and honest but he just seems way over his head unless it's related to the defense and even then, I have to question why his defense, play calling, in game adjustments, etc. continue to get exposed in big games by good teams. We always seem flat and unprepared. By the time adjustments are made, it's usually too late to overcome with an offense that is not equipped to come from behind. I believe the stats will show we didn't have a come from behind victory all season.

Define "come from behind victory" because we were down 9-0 to the Lions before winning.

You're right about the Lions. I heard it on KFAN with Bareiro and Seifert and I believe they were referring to teams with a winning record at the time we played them that Cousins did not have any come from behind victories.

One thing I didn't see mentioned is that a lot of potential candidates aren't available to go through the hiring process yet.  Even Stefanski is only allowed to apply for HC positions right now, as he's still under contract.

Only to the end of the league season correct? I don't believe he is under contract beyond this season as I've seen many media outlets refer to him as a Coaching Free Agent.
