I don't buy it. Rumor mill is nuts this time of year. He was an OC for 3 games.
I'd agree - except when we're talking Raiders or Browns...
Whether he becomes their Head Coach, or takes another OC job, I feel in my gut that he is gone and it will be by his own choosing. I think Zimmer screwed the pooch last year with how he handled the OC opening. He preached loyalty and said that he was not letting Stefanski go to the Giants because he was loyal to him by keeping him on the staff when he took the Head Coaching job, yet he brings in an Outsider to run the offense that had zero history with the organization which was a disaster and blew up in his face. He wasn't good enough for the Vikings OC job, but he wasn't going to let Shurmur have him either. What a fucking hypocrite.

I'll bet Stefanski got a pay raise from RS when they blocked his promo to NY.

He has been collecting a Viking paycheck longer then any other coach.

Just how is that being a hypocrite? I don't think that word fits.
I get your anger and venting on Zimmer, but that is just an odd hammer to use while looking for the last nail.

Zimmer said he didn't want to let Stefanski leave because he felt he should be loyal to the organization for keeping him on the staff when Zimmer took the job. What's hypocritical is that Zimmer did not show any loyalty to Stefanski in return by hiring an outsider for the OC job. He blocked Stefanski from getting a better opportunity as the OC for Shurmur, but he wasn't good enough in Zimmer's eyes to get the OC job with the Vikings. Loyalty goes both ways so that is why I think Zimmer is a hypocrite.

No, Stef was interviewed for the OC position, but the position went to Flip. That really has nothing to do with loyalty. It was a decision (right or wrong) made that we really have no insight into.
Then when Shurmur asked for permission to interview Stef, Zimmer blocked it and asked the reporters why loyalty doesn't go both ways. He kept Stef on the staff when most everyone else was fired. Now he wanted him to remain on the staff, so what is the issue about wanting to keep good people? Perhaps he wanted some continuity with a new OC and a new QB. Loyalty means sticking with something. And Zimmer had shown loyalty to Stef.
I really doubt Stefanski was too upset about not going to NY. A figurehead OC that wouldn't call plays with an aging QB in the NY market. He stood to do better if Cousins had a great year and he got a chance at an actual OC job.
I get the sense the ownership in Cleveland sees their team is on the cusp of something special and are going to interview a ton of folks to get that team leader to end the decades of frustration. That conference is ripe for the picking with Cincy and Pitt on the decline.
I think they'd like a coach with some post-season pedigree, though. But kickin' tires on a bunch of candidates keeps the fan base pumped.

I don’t think loyalty means you have to give them a
promotion if they aren’t the best suited for the job. He just saying he should be loyal to the team
by finishing out the contract and position he signed and agreed to uphold, and
he’s also communicating that he’s too valuable to let leave, which is sort of a
compliment. I think that in Zimmers mind having Flip + Stefanski is
better than having Flip + unknown QB coach or Stefanski + unknown QB coach,
especially when it was thought that Flip would leave after 1 year.
I also don’t think that
Zimmer preventing him from leaving automatically means he’s pissed at Zimmer
and wouldn’t take the position here. I
do think he’s going to probably interview and take any OC or HC job that’s
available to him, so we can’t rest on our laurels.
