I've dialed it way back too...Could see mediocrity coming a # of games ago. It is what it is for 2018. Very underachieving bunch.
I dialed back my expectations already, but the last two
games they’ve dropped below my reduced expectations and still pissed me off.

This.

I don't carry much emotion after the games anymore, but they still piss me off during them.

Getting the same jaded feel here.  I already am in the "well next year" mode.  I love watching the D.  But the offense may has well be the Musgrave era right now. Kirk is getting happy feet and has dropped his eyes.  he misses so many plays now.  Very frustrating.  And the continual play action but never any action.  JDF JRDF.
Not to pile on but the Defense has had more then it's share of shitty games as well.

I love me some D but it's about the O as well. Yeah I know phrasing and to quote our beloved Vanguard, I don't care.

They were down by single digits with a few minutes to go, this loss isn't on the defense. They were gassed. I wanted to see the offense sustain a drive and move the chains.

Oh ok. And yes I know the defense has shit the bed from time to time as well.

Um, giving up 5 yards up the gut on every damn run until the opponent gets into the RedZone and you finally buckle down is not good Defense.

Wanna know why?

1. You know your Offense is sputtering and needs as many possessions as possible to get some positive momentum. But instead of generating a 3 & Out you keep giving up long drives that eat up the clock.

2.  You have far more assets invested in that side of the ball. Where are the turnovers? The Defensive scores? For a Defense First type of team you aren't producing much in the way of game changing moments like the Bears or Ravens.

3. Joseph and Richardson are allegedly Elite Interior D-Linemen, everybody loves Kendricks, and you can't stop getting run on right up the fucking gut, play after play, game after game.

4.  Ben Gedeon falls for every single misdirection. Every single time. Fuck that dude.

Sorry, there are 3 Units in Football and Minnesota threw most of their eggs into the Defensive one. Giving up over 200 yards on the ground to a team missing a major receiving threat is a joke.

Since the Rams game, they really have been solid until late in the games when the offense has left them out there all game.  Saints, Patriots, GB, Bears... The D has kept us in the game while the offense majored in 3 and outs.

I will defer to FSU post above.  The Defense has disappointed this year.

Knowing the offense is sputtering?  They don't need more posessions, they need to score or at least move the ball when they have it.  If they moved the ball, they would have momentum and time of possesion.
Knowing that the offense sucks, the defense is playing lights out, keeping teams from scoring and keeping the entire team in the game.  Yes Joseph is not as effective.  He gets pushed around and has since his knee got injured.  That hurts the team immensely.  And yes, it isn't good watching the team get run on.  Those runs up the gut opened up the edge as people started cheating inside and got burned outside.  But the D adjusted and started slowing the running game in the second half.  Zimmer has the D playing at championship caliber in the pinball offense era.  He adjusts and shuts teams down.

It was fucking 3-0 in the 4th quarter.  And the second FG was a gift because of a bullshit PI.  That was their only big play that moved the ball in the second half until the illegal FG block which let the air out.

Seattle was running the ball, but they weren't finishing because that was our defensive game plan.  No big plays, make them drive the field and they couldn't.  If our offense could score from a 1st and goal at the 4, we would have been up 7-6.

The only reason we are still in games is because the defense keeps us there.  If we had a mediocre defense, the games would be over by halftime with our craptastic offense and middling special teams.

As to turnovers, we have gotten INTs from Brady and Brees.  2 turnovers in the chicago game, but our offense gave it right back.
