Well I know that sounds tough and all, but I just want us to be wise about it. Sean McVay is everyone's darling and his first year as an OC his offense finished near the bottom in points scored. It improved ever year until he got his HC job four years later.
I agree that we should be scoring a lot more points with the weapons we have. But right now at least I put most of that blame on the OL. I think Flip is a guy who just might have a bright future, and he's going to have a LOT of mistakes to learn from between year 1 and 2. Just don't want us to make a decision that will come back to haunt us in a couple of years.
So are you saying he should be given 3-4 years to come up with an offense?
I'm not worried about his offense. I'm worried about his play calling. And I'm saying he should be given another year to learn from his mistakes and improve like McVay did. He seems to be a very smart Xs and Os man who doesn't yet have a feel for play calling. I'd be surprised if he didn't improve.
Well play calling is part of his offense and so far it's iffy at best. There have been moments but we have weapons and they need to get them going. And of course we know the OL is putrid. But when the run game is working, use it. When the pocket is collapsing go hurry up. Put your QB in the best position to succeed. He is getting pressured and it's getting in his head now. Get some creativity and quit being so predictable. The defense has had to adapt to rule changes, the offense needs to adapt to personnel strengths to minimize weaknesses.

Don't disagree with anything you're saying. I'd even add that you'd like to see incremental improvement over the course of the season.
Just saying that Flip's biggest problem is play calling and that likely comes from inexperience. Many of us thought he might struggle with that and he has. Do you keep him and hope he learns from his mistakes? He seems to be pretty studious. Or do you start over with an entirely new offense for everyone to learn, and just hope the guy behind it can call plays better? I think the answer is obvious, but maybe that's just me.
To me you don't flush this window hoping a guy that had 1 iffy year calling plays in Cleveland, watched Pedersen and Reich for a few years and now is an iffy play caller in Minnesota suddenly figures it out in the offseason.
Look, Nagy was a similar situation. Clipboard holder in KC. But the Bears had a really green QB on a rookie deal and an even younger Defense. The organization had time to let him develop as a play caller.
Minnesota does not have that luxury. Neither do Rick and Mike, who will be firmly on the Hot Seat next year.
Time to get an experienced OC.

That's the 64 million dollar question. Does he stay or does he go. There are pros and cons to both. Well just have to wait and see. I just hope we get an OL while the window is open.
