Which Act Is More Repugnant?
#21
SF, I'm counting on the 100+ million voters who sat on the sidelines to step in...if they don't, I fear for our nation and the planet...trump isn't the disease, he's the symptom...

Just as I thought.  Okay with leftist encouraging violence, just not Trump.

For the record, I call both sides out.  Encouraging violence is just crazy in todays crazy world.
Can't respond to any of that? I literally said the opposite.

Talking to Republican voters is like talking to a wall.

EDIT: Those are links, by the way in my post above. So you can see for yourself the context of what you're trying to describe as "inciting violence." ^^^ The bolded parts, in blue. ^^^
make excuse or explain it away.  I already read the context.  Waters was after crazies chased people out of restaurants.  How insane do you have to be to do that?  And then to encourage it?  The left is coming unhinged and the democrats are loosening the screws.
Well, it's official. We live in two different realities.

Republicans are either liars or certifiably as insane as Trump is.

Have a good weekend, everybody.
We truly do, that's the biggest core issue in this country.  We operate in 2 completely different realities and belief systems.  but Truth does not pick sides.  1/3 of the country is being led by the nose by a con man and his propaganda TV channel in Fox News.  Trump, who created the birther conspiracy, is now their source of truth.  He blessed us with new terms like "fake news" and "alternative facts" to create a new version of reality straight out of Orwell's 1984.

And this is what frightens me the most.  Not Trump himself, I expect his insanity and ravings at this point.  It's that a lot of reasonable people actually AGREE with his lunacy and conspiracy theories.  Trump has pushed this bullshit like a dictator to a great degree of effectiveness that the "media is the enemy of the state", and deserves to be assaulted - hell even our resident "Christian" pastor here admitted as much "the media deserves it".  Look at his mob rallies, full of ridiculous lies and hate and yet they cheer it on, like Romans in the Colosseum.  Because in many Republican supporters' eyes - Democrats, the media, the FBI, immigrants, Muslims, Mexicans, gays, Canada, Germany, the UN, the NFL, Nike, Starbucks, Keurig, sexual assault survivors ... they have all become enemies in the blink of an eye - but they don't bat an eye when Trump heaps lavish praise for oppressive regimes with murderous dictators like Russia, North Korea, Saudi Arabia.  That's what frightens me far more than Trump, it's this blind allegiance by most of his base that anyone not supporting Trump and his cult are all involved in some grand Anti-American conspiracy against them.  And you're entitled to believe what you want, but I can assure you the rest of the world is scared shitless the direction the once-proud USA is headed when they're not laughing at our stupidity.

How do we convince reasonable people to not be so blindly partisan and be reasonable again?

I can't top your post, but I'll add this, and it's very, very bleak. I generally don't enjoy people very much, and don't have a whole lot of faith in them. We're no different from anywhere else in the world. I hate to make such a cliche generalization, and I'm certainly not equating what Trump is responsible for to what Hitler did, but the human beings living here in our United States are no different from those living in 1930s/40s Germany. I don't believe all those people were evil. I believe one ego-maniac easily persuaded a bunch of dummies to get behind his rally cry.

And that's what we have here. And that's sadly possible everywhere in the world. "So because I support Trump I'm a dummy?!" Probably. If you like him for his economic policies and that alone, you're likely just misinformed. But if you're supporting the platitudes he stands for, yeah, you're probably easily influenced.

"BUT THE DEMOCRATS..." Yeah, the left has their problems too. There are dummies on both sides. I hate political correctness and what it's done to liberalism. Rather than espousing and practicing basic freedoms, we've chosen to fight one another over what words and bathrooms we can use.

I'm a glass half empty person. I don't have a lot of hope for humanity in the long run. I'm happiest when I turn off the TV and take the dog to the beach at sunset.

On that note, enjoy your Saturday, all! And tomorrow, SKOL Vikings!

KB glad you brought that up.  You guys don't know me but I have a degree in German and Marketing.  Studied at 2 German universities, studied Hitler's speeches and rise of Nazism extensively.  I lived and worked there for Adidas for several years in Nuernberg.  The parallels are what frightens the entire world, they know how it started in Germany. First it was the attack on the Luegepress calling them liars and being anti-German, then blaming the Democrat party, then the demonizing of Jews and immigrants who were deported before they sealed them off to prevent escape.  The speeches written by Goebbels were all ultranationalist Germany first, they blamed the Jews, Democrats and other countries for losing WW1.  In 10-15 years they changed the hearts and minds of millions of reasonable people and were voted in.  Nazi rise to power wasn't violent, it was propaganda poisoning the minds of reasonable people.  But they controlled the papers and radio, here we have a choice ... yet people here willingly buy into this cult propaganda.  That's what terrifies me the most.

Many of my German friends are warning of the anxiety that Trump is spreading throughout Europe.  We are nearing a crossroads and I fear we are too far down the wrong path to get some people back.

Very scary stuff. I wish you ended that post with a solution, but I don't think there is one. It's just baffling to me.

Today, our president agreed with the Saudi's story that the journalist started a fight at the consulate and was killed in a skirmish despite - literally - audio recordings confirming he was kidnapped, tortured and beheaded... and Trump's followers are okay with that. Meanwhile, when Obama said he wasn't going to wear an American flag lapel during a debate/town hall in 2008, these same people lost their minds.

Two different realities we live in, truly.

AGR I'm glad you think it's funny.  I'm glad you cheer on a man who is using the same tactics to destroy the press and our foundations of democracy and make people question what is really truth.  I'm glad you applaud a leader who trusts Putin more than his own FBI, CIA, NSA.  I'm glad you accept Trump's comments that an American reporter started a brawl with 15 Saudis who happen to bring a bone saw to Turkey.  That's what is scary, you're not this dumb but you defend your party to the death that you can no longer be objective and speak up ... and that's how Germany fell to fascism, good people said nothing and went along with it.

I'm glad all of this is amusing to you while your GOP is robbing Americans of their Social security to pay for their tax cuts to the rich.  Proud moment when your party has extremist hate group leaders as speakers.  The GOP is not even trying to hide racism in plain sight anymore.  Bravo.

Well said, my daughter has moved to Germany, and with a little exposure,
you realize the significance of history, this aint just the first time around.  The Moscow, and whom ever,
playbook is nothing new, Same rhetoric, tools and intended response.
Values vs Victim, whats the easy sell, we'll loose jobs and this is how do you do
the wrong thing correctly and get away with it.  Capitalism isn't in the Constitution, but a
great outline for natural rights sure is.

Literally said the opposite of that - went out of my way to not make a direct comparison to Trump, Hitler, the Holocaust, Jews...

EDIT: Read what SFVike wrote in response. It's a perfect response and accurately sums up the situation. If you call that hysteria, I don't know what to tell ya, man.

You know, for people who are deathly afraid of Trump taking away their "free speech", you guys don't seem too afraid to bitch about him constantly.
Of course, I seem to remember it was "you guys" who said- about 20 years ago- that character didn't matter.  The only thing that mattered was whether or not they "did their job".
Well, Trump is still the same repugnant guy he was when I didn't vote for him... but there does seem to be alot of good things going on in the country.
Meanwhile, the Democrats have (somehow) become even more repugnant than Trump.

What point are you trying to make? I'm not trying to be a dick, but that isn't really a "got ya" comment. Yeah, he's trying to silence people and we're calling bullshit. Your point?

I'll concede here, I suppose. Twenty years ago, I was twelve.

... ohhh, I see where you're going. Bill Clinton got a blowjob from an intern behind his wife's back. Yeah, who cares. His fuck-up was doing a shitty job of lying about it. That was truly embarrassing. I LIKE the fact Trump fucks porn stars and marries models. I just wish his politics were more like (Bill) Clinton's. A little. Not all of Bill's politics have aged well, but he was a generally decent man... on paper at least. I don't remember when Clinton mocked a disabled reporter.

Pumpf: you're the Christian here. Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you guys are about, but Trump's infidelities should be real red flags to you. Meanwhile, Pat Robertson (BIG Christian) excuses the murder of a journalist because it could jeopardize an arms deal. Leave it to Christians! You guys are always a hoot.

Well, Trump is still the same repugnant guy he was when I didn't vote for him... but there does seem to be alot of good things going on in the country.

Some. Thank President Obama for a lot of that. Like Donald with his father, he's riding Obama's coattails on a lot of it and taking credit. Oh, sure. I don't disagree he's sped things up some. But I like a little regulation if it means a slightly worse economy but our rivers aren't polluted. But I digress...

Meanwhile, the Democrats have (somehow) become even more repugnant than Trump.

No. You're wrong and you need to be told that more often. It won't help, but you need to hear it.
I'll end with this tonight. I actually think you're a genuinely good dude who'd do that whole shirt off your back thing for anybody of any color/religion/orientation regardless of what they've done. But it seriously fascinates me how you can be so wrong on so many things that are simply moral. Fleecing the taxpayer your entire life is bad. Hateful rhetoric on the media is bad. ... WHITE SUPREMACISTS are shit.

Perhaps that red hat truly is magic.
