For me
The Terror was a bit slow and too small focused, but it did have some exciting parts I enjoyed (similar to the first seasons of Fargo and TD). Dan Simmons is one of my favorite authors because of the Hyperion Cantos and
Ilium/Olympus set, but I haven't read this book.

...What's funny is the only thing I can think of that would be less appealing to me than a fantasy series about demons and dragons is a show about flesh eating zombies. Recently got caught up to both Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead. Who knew? Loved them both...
I gave up on TWD about a season and a half ago. I was "hate watching" it since sometime in S3 and just despise the cyclical storyline and how much they're dragging it out. I kept thinking I'd eventually binge and catch up but I really don't even care to anymore, especially after reading even some diehard fans saying it's falling off. Their ratings/viewer numbers took a big dip in S8. They're going to have to make changes and improve it if they still think they can run it for several more years. If not those numbers will probably keep dropping and just die. Hell, from the sounds of it, cast leaving the series might do it for them.
I'm a superfan of GoT having read the books pre-show and participate daily on fan sites. It is my favorite show ever! I have several friends that are not generally fantasy genre fans either that I eventually got to start watching... Each and every one of them burn-binged through the available seasons - couldn't get enough and are major fans now as well.
