The kicking battle between Carlson and Forbath:
#1
No surprise here. Looks like Carlson has the clear lead in the kicking battle.  If he stays even reasonably consistent, I do not think it will take too long to decide this spot on the roster:
Vikings kickers took five attempts in front of the team at today’s OTA session. Daniel Carlson went 5-for-5 with a long of 53 yards. Kai Forbath went 3-for-5 with misses from 42 and 46.

It won't take long because it's already been decided. They should release Forbath now so he can compete elsewhere. They didn't draft a kicker in the 5th round. Trading up no less to get him unless he was going to be their new kicker. Forbath did ok. Great in comparison to Walsh's last years. He didn't feel very automatic though. I still didn't feel good anytime he lined up. Funny thing is the last time I felt good about a kicker was a rookie pro bowler named Walsh. What ever happened to THAT guy?

I think Carlson is pretty confident, also. He's got the mentality for a kicker to succeed in the NFL, IMO.

I didn't love moving up for a kicker, but if it had to be one, this is the dude. I think they'll make the move to cut Forbath about midway thru preseason so he can catch on elsewhere. If you can't root for a kid named Carlson in Minnesota, what can you root for? ;0

There's something to be said about having the rookie win a competition rather than having his spot handed to him.

Meanwhile, Blair Walsh is still unsigned and not on a NFL team.

Not disagreeing with you. However I stand by my opinion.
Thank you Kia. Good luck.
