Remmers @ RG in latest iteration of Vikings OL
#1
The full Vikings’ 90-man roster was present during the fifth Organized Team Activity practice on Wednesday morning.
Linebacker Anthony Barr returned after taking out an insurance policy to protect himself against injury, in lieu of a contract extension he wanted before OTAs this spring. He completed the Vikings’ starting lineups after sitting out last week.
The next most notable change was Mike Remmers moving to right guard, as forecasted a week ago by head coach Mike Zimmer. Remmers took snaps at guard throughout Wednesday’s team sessions. Rashod Hill replaced him at right tackle.
With center Pat Elflein still sidelined after offseason ankle surgery, guards Tom Compton and Danny Isidora rotated at left guard. Nick Easton moved to center in Elflein’s place.

I'm anxious to see how things change after they strap the pads on...  just going off the OTA depth chart, it looks like this at the moment:

Starters: Reiff, Easton, Elflein, Remmers, Hill

2nd string: Collins (OT), Compton (OG), Isidora (OG), O'Neill (OT)

Next in line:  Gossett (OG), Edison ©

Based on what we saw last year, if Hill is our best option at RT... we're screwed.  I really don't know why they don't just keep Remmers there.  He was better than Hill at pass pro... and I have to assume that he was better at run blocking.  Hill isn't the long-term answer anyway.  So why not keep Remmers there until someone better comes along?

It's early,  I am sure they are hoping that Hill will improve with full reps for a while.

Way too early to see what will be the final group. Easton will be back and that's good. I don't expect the line to look much different than the group that started last year other than replacing Berger obviously.

Yeah it's real early. They probably are just getting the guy who needs more reps at the position work. I think Remmers is the RT opening day. Hill might need to come in some time during the season. At least thats what I hope they're doing.

Maybe Hill has gotten better since last year.  Why write him off so soon?

I think Hill has the better Pass Pro body.  He is still very young in the NFL, was on a practice squad just a year and half ago.

He might be young- and improving.  And I think he will do fine as a short-term "fill-in" (the world needs ditch-diggers, too).  But I thought Remmers was the much better RT last year.
