Teddy Bridgewater looks sharp, healthy in practice with Jets
#31
I see we are in the silly season, where 'buzz' happens in May OTAs. Gotta hand it to the NFL, they create interest all year long.

I dont see Teddy as for sure being traded.  If he is the better QB the Jets would be stupid to trade him away (to miami of all teams)  and then have to face him twice a year.  I know they spent a lot of draft currency on their first rounder,  but if Teddy is the better QB they would be much better served to eat the sunk costs... let Darnoldson grow for a few years and then try to get a Garrapallo type deal out of somebody or look at moving Teddy then once they know better what they have in the youngster.  IMO,  if Teddy is looking good for them the worst thing a team could do in that situation is to deal him out of town for an unproven player just because of some draft picks.

odds are Darnoldson will get a chance here or there over the next couple years due to a dinged Theodore and they will get a sneak peek anyway which will make their decision down the road much easier.  Even if they have to pay Teddy,  he would still likely come with a discount due to the knee concerns.
I don't believe Daroldson sits for more then a year, if that. You don't see a high 1st rounders sitting anymore unless it's behind a HOF. In which case it wouldn't likely be a high 1st, or one you traded up for. Sam will likely get into a game sometime this year. He won't come back out unless he's injured...imo. Jets need buzz and the rookie is the buzz they want. Not the one year rental. Like I say Teddy can only control his play on the field.
IMO the highest risk to the Jets front office/coaching staff would be to trade Teddy away (if he is indeed the best looking QB of the bunch) and then have the rookie struggle (which most do) while a Teddy led Dolphins kicks their ass twice a year.   I have to think being the coach of the Jets is a very precarious position, especially after they gave up so much for a questionable QB.
No I absolutely agree. If McCown is not motivated Teddy will become the bridge to Sam many thought Josh would be. If that's the case they won't trade Teddy.  I doubt it would be to a division rival if he was performing well.  I just don't think with the Jets roster they are going to win enough games to keep Sam off the field. I don't want to be a downer on Teddy but I haven't seen in him yet QB play at a level that can carry a bad team. More a role player. I wanted to see him play at the next level 2 years ago. Maybe he will.  Saying he is the best looking QB at Jets OTA's only means he looks better then a very young rookie and a very old(in QB years)man. Is that enough to put Daroldson on hold for the whole year?  I wish Teddy good luck.

Some good discussion here, but I just want to clarify one thing...  it's Sam DARNOLD.  Not Darnoldson or Daroldson...

Shoot, when I saw "Sam" I was wondering who brought Bradford into the discussion.

Trading a QB to a team within their own division would definitely be dangerous and have a high potential to embarrass them. A person could even argue that it was a big plus for the Jets to sign Bridgewater if they wanted to keep him away from the Dolphins or Bills.
Today I heard speculation (not even "actual rumor") that the Panthers could be interested in acquiring Bridgewater. Probably no genuine substance, but trading him back into the NFC would be preferable for the Jets.

I am not sure I see Teddy excelling in the same offense as Cam.

There was some recent study done showing that sitting a rookie QB does nothing to help him. You either have it or you don't. Maybe you don't start him Day 1, but after half the season or more, there's no value in sitting him especially if the team is already out of contention.

If the Jets start out 3-7 or something similar, don't be surprised to see Darnold in there. It won't be Teddy. I could see TB in there if McCown gets injured early. I just don't get why Teddy chose the Jets. Its not a good situation for him at all.
I don't know and have not seen the study but Rodgers sat for 3 years.  Cousins sat for a good part of 3 years (he had 7 or 8 starts).  They turned out OK.

I think it is better to have them sit instead of throwing them out in the fire.  The only issue is the next contract really.
