As Common would say, "He may be on something, or onto something." I think he is an average guard on his best day. If some of the younger players make a step up this year, we could cut him with nothing counting against the cap. I agree that I think it's unlikely, but it will be interesting to see what happens. If they move Remmers to LG in Training Camp, I think it's good indication Easton will be gone.

To me, that still seems very strange and disruptive when we had interior lineman on the roster that would seem to be a better fit. Boone was a surprise cut so you never know. Last, the Vikings met with a lot of guys that play center in the pre-draft process, and brought in Josh Andrews, who John DeFilippo knows from Philly, who could function as a backup interior lineman. All that, combined with the talk of moving Remmers to left guard- as they did late last season- and there is reason to believe Easton is not in the Vikings future plans. He was ranked #58 of 77 guards last year by PFF, and has never been rated above the low-40s overall (poor) in his two seasons with starting duty for the Vikings.
Its almost like they were trying to work out a long-term deal before placing the tender on him... :o

The reason Boone got cut was because he was brought into a man blocking scheme and once they switched to zone Easton was a better fit within the system. He had a shot to prove he was capable of performing during camp/preseason but ultimately he just couldn't move enough.

We need to get past cutting them if they dont start and thinking about rotation. If they guy is a quality relief they need to hang onto them, same as D line. Linemen are getting worn to a nub come playoffs.

Man, I don't see that at all. Last year was just Easton's 3rd season. Matt Birk, another Harvard guy, didn't start a single game until his 3rd season. So, a team who needed a guard in the draft, missed on all of them until the 6th round, then releases its starting left guard and backup center whom they've been developing for 2 years? A player who barely lost the center competition? Remember, we didn't even know who won that until opening day.
Yeah, safe to say, I would be pretty shocked by that.
