Vikings Mock Draft: Trader Rick at it again
#1
***1.30. Trade down to Denver’s 2nd rounder (40). Pick up Denver’s 3rd round comp pick (99).

2 (40). Isaiah Wynn, G/T, Georgia, 6-3, 317, 33” arms

Wynn falls a little due to labrum injury and inability to workout in the postseason. Ideal fit for a zone blocking team. His movement skills and flexibility to play anywhere on the line should appeal to the Vikings. http://www.profootballweekly.com/2018/03/27/nfl-draft-profile-no-31-georgia-ol-isaiah-wynn/avmqs8z/

If he’s gone: Billy Price, G/C

***2 (62). Trade down to Rams 3rd rounder (87). Pick up their three 4th rounders (the math works).

3a (87). Kemoko Turay, Edge, Rutgers, 6-5, 252, 4.65 forty,

Turay is raw, inexperienced and he's not going to hold up against any double teams, but he's an explosive, relentless edge rusher who's also comfortable in coverage. Right away, Turay gives us a player we can add do our pass rush rotation and also hedge against the possibility of losing Barr. Vikings brought in Turay as an official 30 visit. http://www.steelersdepot.com/2018/03/2018-nfl-draft-player-profiles-rutgers-edge-kemoko-turay/

If he’s gone: Harrison Phillips, NT

3b (99). Joseph Noteboom, Texas Christian, 6-5, 312, 4.98, 34+ arms, 27 reps, academic all american

In terms of metrics, there isn't a better tackle in this class. Great size, 4.9 forty, 34+ arms. Great feet, good in space. Better pass blocker than run blocker. Needs a year of good coaching, but he’s got huge upside. In terms of value, my favorite tackle in this class. Boom! https://nflmocks.com/2018/03/25/joseph-noteboom-ot-tcu-2018-nfl-draft-scouting-report/

If he’s gone: Oren Burks, LB

4a (111). Nyheim Hines, RB, NC State, 5-8, 198, 4.38 forty

Maybe not the physical freak that Jet was, but he's a more elusive runner, and a better return guy. More Sproles than McKinnon. Change of pace back, can line up wide and return. Vikings brought in Hines for an official 30 visit. https://www.ndtscouting.com/ledyard-attention-zone-heavy-nfl-teams-nyheim-hines-mid-round-huckleberry/

If he’s gone: Duke Dawson, CB

4b (135). Chris Herndon, TE, Miami, 6-3 ½, 251

Former WR, big, fast move TE who can stretch the field. Late season MCL preventing workouts is the only reason he goes this low. He can block too. https://www.hogshaven.com/2018/4/23/17240712/chris-herndon-iv-could-be-a-diamond-in-the-rough-for-the-redskins-later-in-the-draft

If he’s gone: Adam Breneman, TE

4c (136). PJ Hall, NT/DT, Sam Houston, 6-1, 310, 4.7 forty, 38 VJ, 36 reps

4.7 forty. We replaced Tom Johnson with Sheldon Richardson, but we still haven't replaced Shemar Stephens. Hall can do that. Short, quick and strong, he's got some Aaron Donald in him. Vikings brought Hall in as one of their 30. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000924808/article/2018-nfl-draft-hustle-fueling-pj-halls-undertheradar-climb

5 (167). Tremon Smith, CB, Central Ark, 6-0, 190, 4.32 forty

I'm not convinced the team is giving up on Alexander after two seasons. But we do need better corner depth. Tremon Smith is a small school guy who looks a lot like Trae Waynes with better ball skills. https://www.cincyjungle.com/2018/4/18/17252044/central-arkansas-cb-tremon-smith-visiting-bengals-day-3-nfl-draft

6a (204). Natrell Jamerson, S, Wisconsin, 6-0, 200, 4.4.

Jamerson is a former receiver and corner with plenty of speed. I think Zimmer would love to find a safety he can trust in deep coverage opposite Harry, but also double as slot corner depth. Vikings met with Jamerson at his pro day. https://www.buckys5thquarter.com/2018/4/24/17259788/nfl-draft-2018-natrell-jamerson-scouting-report-wisconsin-football

6b (213). Davontae Harris, CB/S, Illinois State, 5-11, 205, 4.43 forty

Tough, physical and fast, Harris is getting a lot of attention right now. Finished just under Jaire Alexander in athleticism analytic. Vikings brought in Harris as one of their 30. https://247sports.com/nfl/chicago-bears/Bolt/2018-NFL-Draft-sleeper-watch-Davontae-Harris-115898788

6c (218). Jack Cichy, LB, Wisc, 6-2, 238

Risky pick on an oft-injured player, but it could pay off down the road. Vikings have shown a lot of interest in Cichy, having met with him at his pro day, at the combine and also brought him in as one of their 30. https://www.landof10.com/wisconsin/2018-nfl-draft-wisconsin-football-jack-cichy-scout

7 (225). Vyncent Smith, WR, THE Limestone College of Liberal Arts, 6-3, 195, 4.36 forty

6-3, 4.36 forty. That’s worth a late flyer. Vikings met with Smith at his Pro Day. http://www.thestate.com/sports/college/university-of-south-carolina/usc-football/josh-kendall-blog/article206082374.html

That's a killer draft.  I think the closest one yet.  Doubting the Rams would trade off 3 4th rounders, but we can dream!

Nice Mock MB. I can see you put a lot of thought and effort into this one with some interesting trade scenarios.
Noteboom and Herndon would be very nice picks if it fell that way.

I was surprised that the math actually worked for that. At least according to the trade chart, but that's all we have to go by. No, unlikely they would, but they don't have any picks in the first 2 rounds. I could see them packaging a few to move up for a player they really covet. They seem to be in a "do what it takes" mode.

Yeah, I'd never heard of Limestone College. Maybe if he'd gone to Stanford he'd know how to spell Vincent. ;-)

Natrell Jamerson is an interesting guy.  Could be a major steal on Day 3.  Even if he doesn't develop into a starter, he was a special teams demon in college...  but he has some nice upside in my opinion.  Really like that pick in your mock, Maroon.

Maybe thats the artsy fartsy liberal way to spell it?... I mean who am I to judge people spelling, right?  B)

Heard on the radio this morning that a lot of NFL personnel people view this draft as OK in the first round, but really strong in rounds 2 and 3. Something like 50 players graded as 2nd rounders and a similar amount as 3rd rounders. So we could see a lot of trading down, or at least attempts to do so...

Another reason why the Vikings' pick at 30 would be appealing and valuable to other teams who might be targeting Mason Rudolph is the 5th year team option that comes with a first round pick. To keep a high performing player under contract at a team friendly 5th year option can't be overlooked.
