Because Why Wouldn't You

The Ringer's Kevin Clark reports the Browns have "considered" drafting a quarterback with both the No. 1 and No. 4 overall picks.
It is highly unlikely this actually happens, but that does not mean it is a bad idea. The success rate of even first-round quarterbacks is shockingly low, but taking two of the top quarterbacks would give Cleveland a decent shot at landing one long-term starter. If both pan out, they would also have a valuable trade chip to acquire future assets. That said, developing one quarterback is difficult enough, and it would be a challenge to find enough practice reps for Tyrod Taylor and two rookies. Still, the fact the Browns have even considering an out-of-the-box idea like this is a good sign.

Didn't Washington draft two QB's in the same draft once?  RG III and some other guy...

Unbelievable. Knowing the Browns, they will pick the two biggest busts--Allen and that douchebag in the bandana. As I've said before, I think the Browns would turn that ship around faster by taking two lower-risk, high impact players like Barkley, Chubb, or Nelson and then later on take a low-pressure shot on a QB like White or Falk or Muffaletta or whatever his name is.

One sort of worked out for them for a while.  The other was a bust.

Big difference is that one was, what, 2 or 3 overall? The other was a 4th round pick. That's diversifying your investment. And fairly wise if you ask me. Drafting two QBs in the top 4 is a sign of serious desperation.

Agreed.  One big issue I had with Spielman was his reluctance to invest a second pick on a QB when he had one in the fold.

Not only desperation, but how would they make it work?  Would they ever get a fair glimpse of either before they gave up on both?

It's just a crappy attempt to send a signal to Buffalo and Denver that they need to deal for Cleveland's number four pick if they really want a QB.  They're really hoping that Denver gives them something to swap picks.  In this scenario, Cleveland likely still gets the player they would have picked at four.  It's the Spielman Sucker play that Rick pulled on Cleveland when we drafted Kalil.

The only thing Cleveland has truly excelled at is wasting first round picks on crappy QBs.  I guess picking two crappy QBs is all they can do to top that!
