Very few rookies come in and start since Zimmer has been the Head Coach on both sides of the ball so I don't have any compelling words for you that a corner would be a wise choice. Cook started because Murray was still nursing his ankle. They needed Elflein to start after cutting Boone and sliding Easton to Guard.

I think Elflein and Cook would have started regardless. They were clearly better than their competition even as rookies. We may be in a position to simply take the BPA. It’s a given that there will be injuries. You just don’t know where. Take the best player, even if you don’t think he will be the starter.

I would not mind that at all.

I was really down on Orlando Brown after the Combines. Not so much for the fact that he did poorly, but because it looked like he was disinterested. He seems to have responded well since. I looked at some videos of his play. He was a pretty dominant LT for a team that did really well. I suspect that is what teams will focus on so I would not be surprised to see him go before 30. But if he is there at 30 and the Vikings feel good about him, I would like that pick.

Brown does not fit with the team at all IMO. He's doesn't have the speed or athleticism our OL requires. Add in his lazy, disinterested (or whatever you want to call it) combine and he's absolutely not a Zimmer guy. Zim wants guys who eat, sleep and shit football 24/7 and do so with a passion. His pro day was better/acceptable, at least effort wise. But I believe the damage was already done to any 1st round selection chances. I would not be at all surprised he slipped well into day 2 now.

which is asinine as slot CB is likely the hardest position to play on the defense IMO. when using a 3rd back to take the slot receiver they arent in the game all the time so its hard to get into a groove, you often have no help and really no idea what the opposing receiver is going to run in terms of a route so a little cheat on your part and you will look the fool pretty easy. ( outside corners can play an inside leverage which will take away the quick incutting routes and the receiver has only so much room to the outside because of the sideline). Slot coverage is a bitch and you still have to play the run as well which often makes you the target of that pulling guard after the TE/FB or RT seals the DE and LB on your side.... crunch.

He has some issues, but nobody looks great at the slot coverage IMO... the goal there is to not get beat repeatedly in most instances.

I actually agree with this; I thought Alexander was OK. Probably better than Waynes was in his 2nd season.
On many NFL teams, a safety helps with slot coverage. I think Smith is fine when called on for that role, but is Sendejo very good against a slot WR or quick RB? I would sure rather add a fast S than a CB.
