Mike Hughes

Lots of recent buzz that he will be our pick at 30. Day 1 starter at the Nickel Corner position which may indicate
that McKenzie Alexander might not be the player Spielman and Zimmer thought he was.

Any UCF fans on the board that have watched him play and can provide some scouting reports on his abilities?

I for one will be significantly disapointed if we invest yet another #1 into a CB. we’re getting to the point where we’re drafting CBs like Detroit drafted WRs.

Xavier Rhodes
Tray Waynes

Not exactly like Detroit.

Trubisky looks like he might become a pretty good QB. We also play 2 games a year against Rodgers and Stafford. In the playoffs on the NFC side you are looking at Wentz, Ryan, Brees, Goff.

So long as he has first round talent, I do not hany issues with taking a CB with our first pick.

Alexander may be better suited to the outside cb position.  Old man Newman won't be around forever either.

If we draft Hughes, I can't see us bringing Newman back except as a Coach.

I agree.  It may be time for Newman to retire.  Also if we draft Hughes, or any CB at 30, I hope Zimmer changes his approach to playing rookie DBs.   We need to get some impact from our first rounder this year, not just playing very limitied snaps.  I feel like if we draft a OL in round 1 they could be a day 1 starter and play a ton this year either at RG or RT.

Someone convince me a rook corner can come-in and play slot effectively in Zimm's D...

It's not even exclusive to Zimmer's defense...  most rookie CBs play up and down in their first season.  It's rare to find a guy like Lattimore or Peters or Revis that play well right away.  Rhodes was pretty up and down for two seasons before he finally figured it out in Year 3.

I wouldn't mind a CB early, but it seems like a deep CB draft.  Depending on who is there at 30, I think we could still get a good CB prospect in the 2nd round.

I could see Hughes being the pick although I lean towards Oliver myself.

Neither would start but both could be insurance in case they decide Waynes is too expensive.

They could trade Waynes next off season and have the replacement in house.

Helps the cap situation.
