The Minnesota Vikings are reportedly looking for someone other than Mackensie Alexander or Terence Newman to be the team’s slot corner in 2018.There are not a ton of areas in which the Minnesota Vikings’ defense needs to improve in heading into next season. But there are still some things that need to be tweaked and added this offseason.
One of those will be finding someone to takeover the role as the team’s permanent slot cornerback in 2018. Mackensie Alexander and Terence Newman took turns in the slot last season, but apparently the Vikings are interested in finding someone else for 2018.
Minnesota’s new guy for the role could come through free agency according to 1500 ESPN’s Shawn Zobel on Monday.
As for who the Vikings could be interested in for the role, well they could look at a young corner who has spent his entire career in the NFC North according to the Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling on Tuesday.

Still only 26-years-old, Callahan is a bit raw. Coming to Minnesota and learning from Mike Zimmer and defensive backs coach Jerry Gray could be what he needs to take his play to the next level.
A few other names that the Vikings could be interested in for the role could be Nickell Robey-Coleman, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Orlando Scandrick, Brice McCain, and Adam “Pacman” Jones.
Minnesota clearly feels they are set for 2018 with Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes as their outside corners. But with these recent reports, the Vikings were definitely not satisfied with the performances from Alexander and Newman in the slot last season.

Is this saying that Mac is on the "outs" with the coaching staff... or are we just looking to add depth there (and Mac can fight it out for a starting spot with the guy they bring in)?  Or is Mac being groomed for an outside CB role, in case we can't afford Waynes?
First I have heard of it.  Thought Mac and Newman played pretty well in the slot for the most part.  unless the kid is uncoachable, I don't see why they would give up on him so soon.

Waynes seemed to be on the outs before he took the next step.  I see Mac playing a bigger role this year, but we definitely need some more bodies back there.

Yeah, IMO it is just that.  We need more able bodied dbs.  Newman likely not back?  Need someone with decent experience to push Mac or possibly take over if they are better.

man with how qbs ended up i wouldnt be surprised if we bring Teddy back as backup. i mean jets just gave McCown 10 mil and will take qb in first round, why would teddy go there to potentially not even get starters chance.

come back here with familiarity. maybe play maybe not. but be comfortable and sfill only be 28 when Cousin contract runs out

Zim: we know more about teddy than other teams.

or im wrong and the team knows the knee is dead

I'd love to see us do something at DT and TE in FA.
