Cousins will probably command $20 million per more than Teddy or Sam, maybe $10 mil per more than Case and the guarantees and cap commitment will be way higher. Not saying he isn't worth it, if you look at his fantasy stat they are good, but that money has to get you a winner that elevates the team not a place holder that needs all the other pieces in place. $30M per year makes it hard to keep all those pieces in place so he can win if that is the case.
IDK, hope they get it right.

i have a bad feeling that cousins will flop wherever he goes
why? all the guy does is perform well playing on a marginal team. His numbers over the last 3 years have been better than we are accustom to. Just enjoy the ride, with him, we are in every football game we play from now on
we were in pretty much every game with without him, he will have his games where he shits the bed or the team doesnt show up around him... 30 million dollars isnt going to change his game or the team. we didnt really lose games due to poor QB play and with his warts there is no guarantee that he will truly elevate the position. Case would have likely threw for more yards if the Vikes didnt try to let the air out of the ball so early in contests where they got big leads. a lot of cousins stats are playing from behind and throwing against soft defenses. he will be coming to a new system, past performance is no guarantee of future results for any of these guys, but especially the one that is coming to a new team.
Our QB play was putrid the last weeks of the season in key games, particularly the last 6 quarters. Nor Case or Teddy is the guy here, Sam if healthy is a real threat but if you sign him and his knee goes bust what do next year, go out and sign a FA QB (will any of next year’s QBs be as qualified as Cousins)? Draft a QB? If you are not into Cousins, then what’s the alternative and how is it better? if you say Case, you’re not looking objectively at QB play. BTW we did lose games due to poor QB play, Carolina and Detroit (7 points at home) in particular.
The guy has done nothing but produce for the last three years, with numbers that Vikings fans arent used to seeing consistently. Sure there is uncertainity of a player joining a new team, but when has a top level QB (consistent, not one game or one season wonders) made this move and it has been severely crippling to the team? How could he come here, with DeFlippo, and Cook, and these WRs and not be better?? How? To doubt that would be to doubt everyone outside of Kirk as well.
With him, we have a tough proven gun slinger, not a lucky hot QB with a limited ceiling. We saw what that ceiling was, it was shown in the playoffs and without that miracle play, we would all be calling for better QB play. Is Kirk going to throw more pics than Case did last year? probably, but he will also throw for more yards, more TDs and present this team with a greater chance to win. When we want to get over that hump, you need a guy who is a damn good QB consistently and just needs the right team around him to get to that next level. Cousins can be that guy, you take a chance with him.
more turnovers also puts our D out there more which makes them more vulnerable. you see greater chance to win, i see greater opportunities for the opposing team. Our D is good but not great and when they get over exposed in terms of being left out there to much they get beat. if hes the guy they choose so be it, but he is not what I would want to be hitching my hopes and dreams to, real franchise guys dont become available and even with the contract mess in DC and the snyder factor, there are reasons that cousins is available. if he was as great as those that blindly support him want to profess, why arent there other teams with marginal QBs in the mix? its pretty much the teams with no QBs, or no decent QBs. why wouldnt 2/3 of the league be making a run at the guy if he is better than what they have?
by the way, did you notice the level of QB play dropped when the OL shuffle began... coincidence? I think not!
Agreed. Hill is not a starter, at least not at Right Tackle so until we find someone better than Remmers, last year's line to open the season is looking more likely with Berger possibly returning. If one of the top guard prospects like Price, Wynn, or Hernandez fall to us at 30, then the need to keep Berger for another year diminishes significantly. What if we signed Norwell? I think I would rather spend the money on him, Sheldon Richardson, and other free agents and look at a lower cost option at QB with one of our own 3 or McCarron. I'm not convinced that Cousins will move the needle that much for us at the expense of filling our other needs.
It seems strange to me that people still want to lay the poor team play in the playoffs at Keenums feet. It is obvious the defense did not do their part and the O line was the worst off the season.
Part of the seperation between tier one and tier two QBs is their ability to elevate the team when things get tough. Short of Erin Rodgers, Tom Brady or Drew Brees there isnt many answers to solve that problem.
None of the current Vikings QBs are tier one level QBs and none of the available FAs are tier one either. In short, the problem will continue until we find a way to get our very expensive defense to play better in big games and do what should be expected of them. Additionally we need quality depth on the O line to provide better play when injuries happen and they reshuffle the entire group.
I dont think any of our current QBs or available FAs would have solved that problem.

I hear a lot of people saying things like, "sign Sam and Teddy both for about $18M", or the above that "Cousins will be $20M more than" either of those two. That implies that Bradford or Bridgewater could be had for less than $10M/year. Do you really think so? They both think they are starting NFL QBs, and that means $16M or more even for a Mike Glennon or Brock Osweiler experiment. I think both those guys think they are more proven than either of the two I just listed, and deservedly so. The difference in what Cousins wants and what Bradford or Bridgewater wants is probably a lot smaller than people here think. Getting both of those two to sign here for less than Cousins alone is laughable - and getting them both to come here and compete with each other may be impossible.
A lot of people think we can go cheap on the QB position and afford another defensive star like Richardson. I've said this before: we hired a star defensive coach - make him coach up someone less expensive to polish his defensive diamond.
