Its hard to disagree with the argument that Keenum may be nothing more than a career backup that had one magical year.
Pretty much what everyone said about Foles too.  I guess if you have a career backup QB that's lucky/good enough to have a magical year or two and win a superbowl, I'd take it.  No other "career starting" Qb has ever done that for the Vikes.
do you always bet long shots,  or do you typically like to bet the odds?
Actually, if the Vikes sign Case, I think/expect him play well again next season.  If they improve the OLine and get a healthy Cook, maybe even better than last year.  I think Case was excellent, and earned his playing time.  He worked his a$$ off to keep that job.  I don't think it was luck to be a starting NFL QB and win 12 games.
I think it was that he wasnt asked to win any games for us,  but given my preference I would prefer a QB with better QB abilities in terms of getting the ball out quickly and accurately,  as well as the arm strength to push the ball down field without having to put a lot of air under it.  I like some parts of Case's game and have said so all year,  but I think that there are better options for the Vikings to go forward with in terms of abilities proven,  or in Teddys case,  abilities assumed. ( and yes I know what you get when you assume... B) )

Case can drive a car,  I want somebody that can drive the fricking wheels off the thing.  When healthy Sam is that guy,  and given a little time to get his feet wet again (offseason)  I think Teddy will become that guy.  I dont think the team is taking as big of a risk by resigning Sam and Teddy as they would be if they just handed the team back to Case and said go do what you did last year.   Teams were figuring out what Cases limitations were and forcing him to play into those traps more often.... and being the gambler that he is... he takes those shots... good or bad.
I think signing Case is way less of a risk than Teddy or Sam.  I do think both Teddy and Sam could be better options, but it's hard to believe they can last a season reliably giving their knee concerns.  I'd like to see Teddy and Case stick around, but that's probably unlikely too.
Case has had a knee surgery in the past as well.  a knee injury for a football player is like a tonsillectomy.  yes Teddys was dislocated,  but since there was no nerve or vascular damage its really not the catastrophic injury that it could have been and has been made out to be by the fans.  it was essentially a couple torn ligs and some cartilage damage which isnt uncommon in football.  Could it be a sign... yes,  but until we see another issue I am not going to give up on the kid.

Rumor mill heating up, Brandt with some 'inside info' that Vikes and Cousins like each other. Possible first date, probably just a kiss goodnight, no sex:

So, @Gil_Brandt putting his money on a #Vikings and Kirk Cousins match. FWIW.

Hey @Gil_Brandt ... Just a hunch, but from a few things you’ve said, it sounds like someone whispered to the godfather that Cousins will sign with the Vikings. True?

Not so fast! Kirk would still have to beat out Teddy if he signs with the Vikings.

I do believe the Vikes will do their homework on this.  If Zim and Flip aren't comfortable with his knee, he won't be a Viking.  I do have concerns about his knee, but what do I know?  Nothing, and I can prove it.  B)

I think more than anything the Vikings want a long-term answer at QB. I doubt that's Case Keenum, given his limitations. And that certainly isn't Sam Bradford, though I do suspect whoever lands him for 2018 could have a nice year if he stays healthy.

I favor a Sam and Teddy combo. To me that represents the highest upside for the lowest amount of money. But as I said a few weeks ago, my gut tells me the Vikings are going to have to choose just one, and if that's the case, they're debating between Cousins and Bridgewater.

Update: Vikings will not tag Keenum, he'll be allowed to pursue free agency per multiple sources.

Going to be interesting.

Per my landscaping guy who's a Steelers fan: Vikings best option is Bradford.

He is. I said 'what about Teddy?' and he gave me a dismissive wave and made a face like something stunk.

lol, agreed. I was actually goofing around about the landscaper dude, but he did just tell me that about 30 minutes ago. The Steelers have won 6 Superbowls, what do they know about our pain? Wink

Seems fairly obvious we are not committed to any of the 3 QB’s. If we were we would have likely offerred one of them a contract by now.  The unknowns are:  would they commit to wait for flip to weigh in, or are they being super secretive to keep them all on the hook?  Im thinking we are very interested in Cousins and want to lock him up while we have a window.   Its extremely hard to argue that he is not by far the best prospect of our 4 “choices”

My opinion is evolving to this as the organization sees it:

Top choice: Bradford/Cousins
2nd choice: Teddy

I think the only thing this means for certain is that the Vikings don't think Keenum is worth 23M a year. So the Vikings are 1 for 1 so far in this tangled mess of decisions. So far, so good...
