After surviving like a cockroach through multiple regimes, he should feel a sense of loyalty to the team. He could have just as easily been kicked to the curb with Chilly and been an analyst in Cleveland, which could have lead to a career mired in despair and repair. As it stands, he now has a name, and it's a matter of time before he takes his next step up the coaching ladder. If he has to endure another year or so in Minnesota to provide a us with a little stability or possibly bide his time until the coord. job here is his, so be it.
Wow, this seems odd unless he didn't really want to go to NY.

Really does seem strange, I would love to hear the whole story behind this one.
OK, here's what I think. Vikings wouldn't do this without the approval of Kevin Stefanski. Just isn't their style. I suspect they've approached Stefanski and told him that they want him to stay, that it's very likely Flip will only be here for a year, and they would love nothing more than to promote him to OC in Minnesota when Flip leaves for an HC job.
For Stefanski, who's been in Minnesota for 12 years (I don't know but that might be some kind of record for an assistant coach--it's a damn long time), and may have sunk roots here, kids in school, etc., that could be appealing. And then you have the whole Giants vs. Vikings thing. Under Shurmur, does he even call the plays? Probably not. In Minnesota, if he can wait a year, he'll be THE guy...just like Flip before him.

This is pretty much my thoughts exactly. It's like we share a brain... I bet that scares the shit out you to hear that doesn't it? :p

I agree with both of you except why would they need to block him if he was on board with their succession plan to take over for Defilippo?
I agree that Stefanski is probably on board with the decision and it's completely outside of the organizations character to block someone from progressing their career. I'm just not sure I believe the Vikings think this is a 1 and done year for Flip. We'll now be on to OC number 3 in 3 years the way it is. If Flip was the best OC candidate available, but they expect him to leave after next season, I don't see why they wouldn't just have Sefanski take over the roll now. Why set yourself up for 4 OC's in 4 years, when you have Stefanski already on board, with a far better chance at coaching stability going forward? Another system to learn, new terminology to learn, new everything yet again, just to do it again next year? That doesn't exactly seem like a great management decision to me.

That way it's not out there that he isn't interested in moving in case it doesn't work out as planned. This say the team is the one saying no and not the coach, at least publically.
