They probably can void the trade but the Chiefs would be pissed!@SmashmouthD said:
If I'm Cousins and someone tags me for $34 million for one year, I sign that shit immediately. Immediately.
Then, refuse to sign a long-term deal with any other franchise. Make those a-holes pay you $34 million to sit on the bench. Or, they cut you, pay you the $34 million, and then sign with whomever you want. Double-dip, baby.
Washington would have no leverage whatsoever.
If Cousins took that approach, could the Redskins still void the trade for Alex Smith? It isn't official until the league year starts, so they may have an out.
I think many owners would be pissed at Snyder for doing that to the Chiefs.
If he did not care then he would become the new Al Davis of the NFL.
It might be hard for them to do deals with other teams going forward too.
Who could trust them?
Even if they did, Kirk could refuse to sign and just wait it out.
They would have 34 mil tied up and would have to navigate free agency and the draft not knowing what Cousins may or may not do.
That might not sit well with the rest of the team and some of their current UFAs could decide to get out of dodge.
One other thing is that the Chiefs need to clear Smith's 17 mil off their cap too.
They will want the trade done immediately.
