case is a very easy guy to like, but still doesnt seem to be a guy that could carry a team on his own. if he’ll stay for a decent amount as we develop sloter or a pick so we can also sign diggs, barr, hunter, etc... sure. but if he wants 20M+, i doubt it.
um........he pretty much carried this team today. one shit pass which happens.  otherwise he threw everything you could ask for. most of those passes were nuts on a nat acurate.
Yeah, but he's short and doesn't have an elite arm! Big Grin

The blocked punt was far more damaging than Case's one bad decision.

That future HOF QB had 3 passing yards in the first quarter and 2 INT's. Maybe if he was taller or had elite arm strength... Wink

I see the deficiencies in Case's passing and I know you guys have a point with all of that. No doubt. I was not a happy camper when Case threw that baaad pass. That said, I guess for me the 2 best things about Case are his fearlessness and his pocket awareness/mobility. There is NO WAY Sam could have outmaneuvered anything last night, coming off of 5 practices and 4 months of rehabbing his knee. That is just the flat honest truth. And, I'm not sure if Sam could've been successful last night period. They pushed our O-line around all night. Their defense came to play. They are much improved and their team is much improved overall. We got out of that game by less than the skin of our teeth. We had a miracle happen but it couldn't have happened if not for Case doing his thing and he did it multiple times.
IMO, sometimes you have to go with the guy who fits your team best even if he has some fair-sized warts. Case fits our team. He's a fiery competitor, he's mobile, he's a good leader. I have doubts if we could have made it this far with Sam or Teddy leading us (and let me tell you that hurts to say because I love Teddy). I would love to see us keep both Case and Teddy, but it is more than likely going to be impossible to do that unless they both want to be here...and I can't imagine that either one of them wants to have to fight for the job in training camp again next season.

Some quotes from this article:

"Case came here with a lot of moxie and self-confidence," said Harrison Smith, the Vikings' first-team All-Pro safety. "It seems like everybody on the outside keeps waiting for him not to do it, and he keeps getting it done, every single week. And this ... this was just magic."
From then on, bedlam ensued. Yet while the play may have been miraculous, the Vikings didn't view it as anything resembling a fluke -- because the man who threw the ball had long ago won them over with his grit and his indefatigable spirit.
"Serendipity," Newman said. "That was awesome -- one of the greatest plays I've ever seen. And the great thing is that Drew Brees showed why he's one of the all-time greats, and Case Keenum came right back and matched it.
"He's a grinder, man. He's a dude that never had anything given to him. He's just a competitor. This is like one of those feel-good stories: He came in and wasn't expected to start, and he's taken over and taken us on this ride. And he's a really, really good human being."
Said Rudolph: "He just never gives up. For him, he's used to it. He's proved people wrong his whole career. And today, we never gave up. Everybody thinks about all the bad things that have happened to this organization. If you think back to the last two years, there've been a lot of things. But we feel like this is our year."
As Shurmur prepared to leave the locker room, he flashed back to a conversation he had with Keenum early in the season, shortly after Bradford went down: "Case told me, 'Listen, I've got the chance to drive a really beautiful and nice car, and I'm gonna drive it as long as far as I can.'"

Usually when I see a QB just throw up a pop fly under pressure it's usually some dude wearing a Browns or Jets jersey.

Case makes that throw next week against an inarguably better Defense and this team will not be in the Super Bowl.

Not a fan of the sack he took to kill the drive to start the second half either. And the Saints have exactly one D-Lineman good enough to play for Minnesota along with 1 CB and 1 Safety, so let's not act like they're the Jags on Defense or something.

Having said that, the second half struggles were not all on him by any stretch. Remmers and Hill were bad that half.  I thought the playcalling got a little stale. Murray didn't do enough with the creases and lanes he was given. The blocked kick was inexcusable.

I'd sign Case to a low-end Tier 2 type deal. The moxie and pocket savvy makes up for the gambles and arm issues. This move is made easier knowing how much they like Sloter.

Best 'Case' Scenario is the team has a Franchise QB for many years to come and Sloter becomes Garappolo 2.0

It wasn't just that one throw.

The one to Jarius to put us in field goal range.  Or the one to Thielen.  That was a solid performance.
he threw balls that were caught yes,  but he leaves a lot of yards on the field because he doesnt lead his receivers very well,  but... the balls are completed which is the most important part.    there is room for improvement,  the question then becomes can he improve or are we seeing his ceiling?  at his age I dont see arm strength improving so I dont know if he will ever be able to put enough on a flatter trajectory pass,  the lob passes may be his compensating?
Funny people using some of the great catches as proof of a great QB.  I like Case, but this was the Washington game all over again.  Playing well, gets careless and thankfully we win.

The INT off the back foot while getting hit was the epitome of what you don't do as a QB.  Saints just scored, one play and we give it back to them deep our end?  That was a huge turning point in the game.

Insane that people would want to pay him franchise money and handcuff the team.  He is a solid starter in the right offense.  But he wasn't solid yesterday.

I cant believe how dismissive people are about the concerns.  Yes he does some things really good,  probably one of the best in the league in extending plays and keeping his eyes down field,   but decision making is a big part of the position and we all know how Zim is when it comes to limiting turn overs and Case once again showed a lack of sound decision making in that pick,  he needs to do better especially next week on the road in what should be an even tighter game.

its funny how many people were down on Teddy because of his lack of arm strength,  but seem to be fine with Cases weak throws.   I think Teddy has the stronger arm but some how its not an issue now.

with all that said,  the Vikes do need to make him a decent offer if they think they can keep him in an offense that favors his skills,   I think he is likely in that 20 million per year range for a contract average.   I keep hearing 15 million getting tossed out... Tyrod freaking Taylor made that much on his last deal.  And really the only contracts smaller than that are rookie deals and journeyman back ups.  Case has warts, and I dont think he will replicate this year again, (lightning in a bottle)  but I think he can be a pretty damn good place holder and keep us in the playoffs for a few years until we can find that guy with the big arm and great decision making... i  mean 3 years right...should be long enough to find a franchise QB.... how hard can it be right?

But the way he handles those big balls makes up for it.

Brady and Erin are already taken.  Case played lights out today.  Even the pick was an attempt to make something happen.  Would you prefer Sam throwing 9 yards short of the first down marker because he's afraid?
