It has to be Asked - What About QB for 2018?
#1
Case Keenum has now won more games in a season than any QB since Brett Favre.

In fact, only Joe Kapp, Fran Tarkenton (twice), and Randall Cunningham have won at least 12 games in a season.   In 1970, the Vikings won 12, but it was split between Gary Cuozzo (10 wins) and Bob Lee (2 wins)

So, with a now healthy Case Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Bradford (practicing today) and Kyle Sloter, who do you think deserves the contract for 2018?

the Vikings have won more games with Andrew Sendejo at S than any other S since....

the arguement could be made for any player on the team,  I dont think its a stretch to say that while Case has played admirably in this offense that the position could be upgraded.  Case has earned more years and better money,  that is indisputable,  however the question remains how much do you give a guy that has a weak arm and is prone to making poor decisions with the ball?  I think Case is a guy you can win with... but I dont think he is a QB that will ever win you many games in a season.   He is a place holder until somebody better is available.

I think the real question is are Teddy or Sam that better guy coming along to take the job from Case?  I think its still a little early for Sloter to be competing for the #1 role,  but certainly is in the discussion for next year.

I'd be shocked if Teddy wasn't their choice moving forward.  Right or wrong, it just doesn't appear like Case can win Zimmer over.

I think Teddy gets offered a contract,  but I dont think it will be a monster deal either.  Teddy has a lot to prove before he should see the kind of money that he was expecting before his injury.

I personally think you allocate about 20-25 million to the position for 2 spots,  pick 2 of the three and see if they want to compete for the starting job.  set up both contracts so the starter is in line to make about 15-18 million and the back up will get 5 to 7 million.  set the contracts so they have a team and player opt out after one year, but structure them so that they are more like 3 year deals with incentives to go higher for the starter.

we cant lose all 3,  but we also cant be saddled with a crappy QB contract if the guy doesnt end up being who we think he is.

I would try to sign Kirk Cousins if I were in charge.

Cousins is good, not great, and I think he would cost a fortune.  I think he sees himself as a top tier QB - he has been franchised twice already. I don't think he is a top tier QB. The only way I would sign him is if he were willing to take second tier QB money. I don't think he will. There will be a team that believes he is what he believes he is.  If he decides he wants to win, OK. But if he wants to max out his contract, I would pass.

I would run with Case, Sam and Sloter next year.

And get whatever I could out of Teddy.

i dont think there’s any way Keenum comes back without being paid starter money.  if we dont give it to him someone else will, its that simple.  so, does that mean 15M, 20M? Teddy should be resigned too in the 5-7M range.  he knows he has to prove is is what he was.  Sloter is already signed.  that leaves Bradford as the odd man out.  He has the strongest and most accurate arm so its a tough decision but i think Teddy wins out over Bradford. i think Sam walks.  we just cant sign everyone.

I think both Case and Teddy resign - if the $$ are right. Case will be the starter assuming he doesn't look to break the bank.   Teddy will resign a back up deal UNLESS some team out there thinks he can step in as their starter.  If he can get a starting gig he will take it.

Sam is done in Minn unless......

Case or Teddy or both go elsewhere.  Then Sam is an option to come back on a prove it deal.

I will be surprised if Case is not the starter in Minn next year.
