Reading some of the comments in this thread almost brings tears to my eyes, literally!!
All Brian has ever wanted to accomplish was to bring you guys a SB to Minnesota. Yeah and he wanted to do something he loved for a career. He could have half assed it and done track and field while playing football, to accomplish another longtime dream of gold medals, but it was both too much to try and accomplish. He chose to focus everything on football and being the best player he could be and grab a dream and get one for you guys too. He's said it many times in interviews, the people of Minnesota DESERVE a SB Championship. They are diehard fans who support their team.  Brian also wanted to be that role model to the young ones. Showing them that you can be a beast on the field and a community leader off the field. By reading these comments i think he's accomplished all he's ever wanted to.......except 1 thing and i don't think he is willing to leave Minny without it happening. That's part of the reason he has always been happy to play whatever role he is told to play. Yeah, for me, i think he could have accomplished a lot more for himself during his career, become the perennial Pro Bowl player that every kid dreams of but he chose to do whatever was asked of him to better the team. Unselfish, team player that cares what people think of him. Sounds cheesy doesn't it, or is it me telling you something that you want to hear and what would make you like my son.
As cheesy as it sounds it's all true, i have no reason to sling BS your way, i heard someone the other day say, " Minnesota fans are smarter than most other fans of the game, you can't fool them." So i wouldn't attempt to fool you guys.
All that said, as a father, I'm hoping that he gets 2 or 3 more sacks and passes KWill. Maybe he can even accomplish enough to be in the ROH. A dream for me and him. Sadly i don't know if he has. 1st, he is the only player in the top 10 in sacks for the Vikes, that has never made a pro bowl. 2nd he has to do it in the next 2 weeks, when he's only had 3 for the year and 3rd, well lets just say I'm hoping they allow him to return for the final year of his contract at which time he will probably retire. Personally, I'm not positively sure that upper management wants him back.
I want to thank all of you for the nice and flattering comments you'v made. If nothing at all he's accomplished a few important goals and he's made his whole family very proud. I know at some point his career has to end, but the selfish part of me would want him to play until he's 45 but that's not realistic. It's just that football and his career have been such a huge part of my life, i have and will always love this game.
Hopefully when he does finally hang up his cleats it'll just mean that we'll get to spend more time with him and his family. It's true what the players say about retirement, Brian has said it to me. It's not the spotlight and attention you'll miss. It's that commoradery in the locker room and the relationships you've built with the fans and your teammates, some of which, will be there the rest of your life.
From a dad of a player i just want to tell you fans that you have really meant a lot to me and my son. You accepted him for who he was and learned how he ticks, you've seen what he is truly made of and because of this he's made me proud of the man he's become.
So if this is his last year (no, i have no idea when that will be) I'll just cherish the ride and tell you guys that to him and me you've all made it a great ride.
Thank you.
Pops, I've always admired how hard it is for you to be on a fan board when your son is such an important part of the team because, yes, you get to see the love from the fans but also, some digs on Brian also. And this is your SON. That can be hard to take as I can only imagine. We're all fiercely protective of our kids and I don't think some realize how trying that can be sometimes to see negative things in writing.

My fingers are crossed that Brian gets his sack at home against Chicago and its announced on the big board what he's accomplished and the fans rain down the love on your boy. I can't imagine a better belated Christmas present for you.

Thanks Sticky. Yeah i can remember those first few years on PT. You're right it wasn't easy at times. In fact, it down right pissed me off at times. But i knew when i revealed myselfl there, it wouldn't be easy. Funny thing is Brian actually posted and revealed himself first, there on PT. I remember how funny it was at the time as many of the members immediately wanted the moderators to verify it was Brian and not some poser. Yep, it was down right brutal for me at times but i realized that not everyone was going tonlove my son. It got better at times but for the most part i learned that i had to have that thick skin (extremely thick) and not take it personal. I also knew that when he screwed up or played badly i had to be impartial and recognize it and take my lumps. Brian did too. Yet he was always honest with himself and the fans. That's why I am so grateful for the Longship.
I am also grateful that Brian never wavered and for the most part made many of those there on PT eat crow by lasting as long as he has and using the criticism to fuel his burning desire to prove that he belonged.
Sticky, we leave for Minnesota today for Christmas with our son and yes i will be there for the Chicago game. I wouldn't mind seeing him already having passed KWill and just add some icing on the cake then.

I loved watching Brian play.  And I loved interacting with you Pops.

The best part is my son loved watching him play because you posted on the same sites I did. To this day he announces out loud every time Brian gets a sack.

A good role model.

Saw this on another sight when they breakdown every Viking sack this year (35 of them)

"As you might expect, Hunter, Robison, Tom Johnson and Griffen are the most successful group, teaming up for 11 sacks this season if you consolidate the instances when Robison and Johnson switched sides."

Just another clear reminder that Brian is a team player, will play either side and sometimes interior, and his play and edge rushing results in others pressures and sacks.

I hope the team's upper management see's this, and values Brian's team play, for at least another season.

When my oldest was watching the game with me on Sunday, he saw Brian's first sack and started laughing when he did his sack celebration...  he said, "Daddy, that guy looks like he's reeling in a fish!"...  I chuckled and confirmed that's what he was doing.  He was all excited and said, "Well, it looks like he got a big one!" and imitated it.  That made me laugh out loud.    I told him that's the guy that Mommy and Daddy watch on 96 Questions every Thursday night and we met his dad at the tailgate last year.  He finally put two and two together and thought that was pretty cool...  he's finally at an age now where he can sit down and watch the whole game with me and understand what's going on.  Special moments...

I remember those days on PT & was embarrassed to be a Viking fan

I like when Jimmy Kimmel has successful people read " mean tweets" as it really shows how sad Internet trolls can be

anywho...Enjoy !
Still more to come...

hard working and has earned everything hes gotten from this franchise,  when BRob hangs up his cleats there will be nobody thinking that he could have done more for the Vikings.  Definitely RoH worthy.

I still remember him not biting and staying home in his spot during the playoff game vs Seattle - when Russell was going to bootleg.

Sounds simple? I say what a frigging great play that was...

All the love from us is well deserved. brob is a great pro and does it off the field as well.  hopefully he continues his comraderie with his foundation which is most important work imo.  pro bowl or not, his standing and play speaks for itself
