Any More Chanting for Teddy??
#61
Have read some really compelling for and big questions around Case the last few weeks.

But you know what? I doubt there is going to be an available QB in FA next year that I'd take over him either. So I think the Vikings are going to be forced to sign him and hopefully in a way that rewards him and protects the franchise.

The Teddy situation is still a mystery wrapped by an enigma. Unless something really bad happens, we're not going to find out more about how far back he really is till next year, if they can keep him. I am nervous as hell having Teddy as the back-up going into the post-season too.

I just can't see a scenario where they keep both of these guys to be honest and I can't see where they let Case walk in order to keep Teddy right now either. Unless the metric set the front office uses is one I'm not privy to.

And I sure as hell hope they keep Shurmur. That might make them more willing to pony-up a little more then a Glennon type contract to Keenum.

Will be a fascinating offseason @ QB and OC for the Vikings.

Edit: Being at the game yesterday, I was also privy to the applause Case got early in the game and also later when his pix was shown on those marvelous screens @ USB. There is no doubt in my mind Viking fans are very much in his corner right now. Doesnt mean they don't appreciate Teddy's effort to get back on the field, but they know who's buttering their bread right now too - who saved the season frankly.

And yet a very detailed article was posted on here a week or two ago that showed specific plays where he locked on to WRs as soon as the ball was snapped, didn't go through progressions, missed wide open guys, and can't make all the throws.

And yesterday he clearly threw about the tenth pass of the season that hit a defender and wasn't intercepted. The horseshoe is still alive and kicking, but he can't make that throw in the playoffs.

On the flip side, he's made improvement on going through his reads. That look off on the Safety before he hit Diggs with a rope for a TD was next level stuff.

But again he passed on multiple chances to take what the Defense was giving him via checkdowns in favor of holding the ball forever to make the Hero Play, which you don't want from a guy without a canon for an arm. And those plays are starting to turn into more sacks as the Line gets more and more dinged up.

It's an incredibly tricky situation. Case has some limitations that can't be fixed, but also some that can. And he's clearly shown improvement in those areas, just not consistently.

Then you have Teddy, who is more of a progresion-reading, take what the Defense gives me type of guy that may never play at a high level again but we won't know as you can't possibly sit Case for a game to find out and risk him losing his momentum.

Finally you have the Shurmer situation. In my mind the best question should be "which QB has the best chance to succeed with a new OC next year".  Cuz Pat's as good as gone.  And that's a question I don't have an answer to.
"He passed on multiple chances to take what the defense was giving him in favor of making the hero play."  Dude, he completed 20 out of 23 passes (87%) and at least one of those was dropped (Thielen behind the line of scrimmage).  He just set the mark for best completion percentage in an NFL game this season and is sitting at 68% for the season.

You know what I got really sick of seeing these past 7 or so years?  Checkdowns, constantly throwing short of the first down marker, and being afraid to take any chances throwing the ball down the field.  Case has been a breath of fresh air IMO.
First play sack when the checkdown in the flat was open.

JFC your nuthugging is annoying. You deal in absolutes. Case is great and every criticism is wrong.

Great. I get it. And I don't live in that world. You know who else doesn't? Mike Zimmer. And if you do think he's made it eminently clear through words and deeds that he isn't 100% sold on Keenum either that's further proof of your inflexible stance.

Another nice tidbit here is how you blatantly ignore the points I've routinely made about Case improving. Smart, because they don't fit your agenda that Keenum is above reproach.

Also a classic sidestep to marvel at the completion percentage but ignore the fact that one of those incompletions was a drop...by the other team.

I'm being honest. Giving views on what I've seen from watching years of football, much of it in slow motion.  And my evaluation of collegiate prospects, and specifically FSU prospects, has earned me some room to expound on my opinions. First on PT and later on here.

I honestly see a guy who can help this team win a Super Bowl. And I see a guy with flaws that could really anchor drop a franchise if they made him the Franchise QB.

Notice I said could, not will. Why? Because I'm not an Absolutist. Only the Sirh deal on absolutes. I prefer a broader view of the Force.

Can't stand the Sirh.  Bastards. Smile

Case has improved lately, and I see him as a guy that can lead us through the playoffs now.  After the Washington game, I wasn't of that opinion.  But he has taken the coaching, improved his play, avoided the blunders.

But yes, I saw that checkdown on the first play.  There was one later too he missed.  But all in all, I am happy with his play right now.  I think much of that is Shurmur maximizing his strengths.
