I agree completely with this article....and I'd add the regular media also has a hand in this disruptive aspect.

Not sure about other regions, but here in LALA land people post EVERYTHING that happens in their lives to try and keep up with the Jonses.  "Look how great our son/daughter is". "Look where we are vacationing"...."Look at me...I'm at the Dodger game!"
It gets old fast.

I guess it's human nature, people need this validation, and if they can't get it from their loved ones, they cast the net into the cyber world....

IMO, social media is a symptom, not the cause.  It may have a hand in the behavior and certainly feeds the beast, but the selfish, look at me generation was already there waiting for it.  It isn't the "this generation... blah blah blah, get off my lawn" either.  There are some serious issues with a majority of the youth.  Horrible behavior, so much lacking.

I have been thinking about this a lot recently.  As great as the Internet is, I honestly think it's also one of the worst things to happen to society in a long, long time.  Between sites like Facebook allowing foreign countries to purchase ads and create fake sites to influence our democracy, to the spread of completely asinine conspiracy theories (Sandy Hook parents being harassed as actors after having their children murdered) and dangerous misinformation (vaccines, etc.), to the spread of ideologies that promote terror, a lot of time I think the internet does more harm than good.

Sadly, it's the craziest/least intelligent of my facebook friends who are the ones who are constantly posting and sharing the political junk and misinformation all over my newsfeed.  God forbid they take 30 seconds and investigate to see if what they are posting is factual or not.

I would rank political talk show radio that constantly feeds one side of the story over and over and over again as right up there with social media in ripping society apart.

Its a double edged sword.  Sure we get exposed to fake news and we out up with inanity of our neighbors and relatives everyday lives,  But at the same time it allows information sharing outside the mainstream media.  

At least now more people are aware of the line of manure they have been fed all of their lives.

I guess it depends if you think you were fed more manure before or after social media.  I would say people today consume WAY more shit than they ever did in the past, and unfortunately, they eat it all right up without questioning a thing, just because they read it on facebook or on someone's blog.

bla bla. the russians are coming!!!!  our democracy is in shambles!!!  im sure your least intelligent “friends” fall outside your political belief spectrum?

maybe just maybe both sides have been feeding us shit for years and are all part of the same washington machine that keeps us all screwed. 

just remember...that left wing and right wing are on the same damn bird.

the media didnt even tell the world that Roosevelt had polio and couldnt walk. the only difference now days is its much harder to control the script like “they” were able to do in the past. things like the internet do more to free our society then any harm that comes with it.
