What A Wild Season So Far
#1
IIRC, most on the board had us at 10 wins, maybe less, a few more...but I think we all were thinking/hoping 10 was doable...4 games left and we have a legit shot at 14 wins and a 1st round bye throughout...as big a surprise as the OL has been, Keenum's ability to take advantage of that protection has to rank right up there with the starting five and how they have performed to date...
The only downside to the D I'm seeing is they don't produce a lot of turnovers...probably because they don't let the opposing O stay on the field long enough...if we start getting some turnovers we might be unstoppable...the way Zim has been calling the D, we might be unstoppable regardless...and to think he was contemplating turning over the play calling to Edwards...

There is no reason for Zimmer to turn over the defensive play calling to anyone.  What is he hoping to do, get involved in Shurmur's offense? Hell no.
I doubt anyone knows this defense better than he does, or even as well as he does. He needs to keep doing what he is doing. We can think about those things next year.

I am hoping that this D, maybe next week can find an extra gear, (not bemoaning one bit) increasing the turn overs and sacks like the first half of last year.

Not rely on them but start to produce more putting the offense in short fields or even enhancing our leads in games

This is a different version of "bend don't break"! this D just gives the middle margin of the field and then it's "NO WAY DUDE"! You don't get beyond a 35 yard FG most series. And we barely ever blitz. We sent HS in on a stunted blitz and Ryan actually got enough time to find a TE I think. We are almost boring to watch on D because we break the other team down and they just kinda roll over! It's a dream to watch as a Vikings fan. We had most of this D 2 yrs ago, and last yr as well but the OL just couldn't do anything and the D gave up mid to late season last yr.

Facing this D must feel like being the victim of a constrictor...Not too bad at the start...then eventually you really can't move...

Agreed,  It makes me want to see the Vikes take on the Patriots just to watch them put Brady on his ass. Tommy hates to get hit.  He starts losing his cool and yelling at people on the sidelines. He might make them pay a few times but in the long run he hates getting hit so much that he would start making mistakes.
Brady walks into a Barr?

But I think Z's D is just so calculated and clinical...scientific. It's unlike what any team can dissect. The looks are in a constant cycle and it really sucks for a QB to combat our shenanigans.

This defense is playing incredible football.  They have been simply amazing on 3rd down.  It's almost to the point that I relax if the opposing team has a 3rd down, especially if it's 3rd and long.

One for ten with all those weapons plus a solid OL...

I set the floor @ 9 wins back in August.

Needless to say, they've surpassed this fans expectations for regular season.

Now I dare em to make me change my sig with a post season run.
