Red-hot Vikings chasing first-round bye, then ‘a bigger goal’
#1
ATLANTA — After the Vikings lost 14-7 on Oct. 1 to Detroit, defensive end Everson Griffen said it was important to win their next four games.
Well, the Vikings have doubled that. Their 14-9 victory Sunday over Atlanta at Mercedes-Bank Stadium was their eighth in a row.
“We went 4-0 and now we’re 8-0,” Grifffen said. “It’s up to us to keep our foot on the gas pedal.”
The winning streak is the Vikings’ longest since they won their final eight of the 1998 regular season and then a playoff game. Their 10-2 start is the best since they also were 10-2 in 2009.
Minnesota has all but wrapped up an NFC North championship. The Vikings have a four-game lead over Detroit (6-6) and Green Bay (6-6) with four games remaining, and can clinch the division next Sunday with a win at Carolina (8-4) or a loss by either the Lions or Packers.

A win over the Panthers would put the Vikings even closer to a first-round playoff bye. They have the second-best record in the NFC after Philadelphia and hold tiebreakers with wins over two teams chasing them, New Orleans (9-3) and the Los Angeles Rams (9-3).
The Panthers could win a tiebreaker over the Vikings if they stop their eight-game streak. Regardless, Minnesota has to lose two of its final four games to not finish in the top two and get a first-round bye.
“We understand it’s big,” defensive tackle Tom Johnson said about the win over the Falcons (7-5). “But we’ve got a bigger goal in hand.”

@ Carolina
Bengals
@ GB
Bears

The division games are always tough and Rogers may be playing Xmas @ Lamblow, so that will be more difficult. We could run the frigging table too.

Wow, what a December in front of us....

My dream Super Bowl would be the Vikings beating the living crap out of Tom Brady and the Patriots.  Removing that stigma about them for good and sending them into a spiral for years to come.
