Depends on what happens with Newman, but DB seems to be the sweet spot in the mid to late 20's. There will be both corners and safeties there. Although he may be riser throughout the draft process Tarvarus McFadden opposite of Rhodes would play well. If you look back at Rhodes at FSU they're similar players. The only significant difference is that Xavier was more physical where McFadden plays the ball better.
do we have room for 4 high round CBs on the roster.
Its a luxury, but CB is a premium position in the NFL. Rhodes is here long-term but both Waynes and Mac are controllable through 2019. With the assumption one of the two do not return you'd be better grooming a guy now. Add in the fact that there isn't much depth there and it makes a ton of sense.

I hope we make DT a priority. I was watching some 2015 highlights and yeah, we DO miss Shariff Floyd Sad It makes me so disappointed for him and the team that he's had this surgical complication. Can you imagine our D line NOW if Floyd was playing?? Awesome Sauce!!!!

I think Id be unhappy with another 1st rounder on a CB. People would start thinking we are the WR drafting Lions of the 00s. When is enough enough?  Waynes looks to be trending good right now. We are going to need help in the trenches on both sides. Not to mention our QB is far from figured out.

Just my opinion, but I think Jaleel Johnson is going to be the guy for us at the 3 technique going forward and that is why I didn't have a DT on my early needs list. I actually thought he would start early this year because we could struggle against the run, but Tom Johnson is having a great season and Zim is adverse to starting rookies as is. Tom Johnson is in the last year of his deal though and will turn 34 before next season so Jaleel will likely get his chance next season to earn and solidify that spot. I loved what I saw from him in the preseason.

Man did I want McGlinchey on this team last year. And he's done nothing in his Senior Year to change my stance. But Geoff is right, he'll be long gone.

As far as CB, I'm going to get a little controversial. Zimmer is a Veteran CB reclamation project guru. His track record for CBs he's drafted? Not so great. Dennard, Fitzpatrick, Waynes, Alexander. Not exactly a Murderer's Row of well-developed Talent.

I'd be more interested in another Newman or Pacman Jones sneaky good FA Signing and also using a mid-round pick.

DT better have been solved with Johnson, they passed on a lot of good talent to pick him.

Personally, I'd go BPA between O-Line (preferably OT), LB and Safety. Why LB? Not a guarantee that the Team can keep both Barr and Kendricks. Gedeon sure doesn't look like an heir apparent for either spot and I'm not sure anyone else on the Roster is either.

An athletic TE to compliment and eventually replace Rudy would sure be nice too.

Not bringing up QB because I honestly think it's Bridgewater and Sloter next year.

FSU....what are your thoughts on some of your guys this year? McFadden has been brought up in this thread. Also, are you pissed Jimbo is leaving?

Fuck Bimbo Fisher and the horse he rode in on. Pundits laud him for in-game adjustments. How about having an actual game plan before the first snap so you're not always trailing at halftime?

And he actually bragged about how none of his Assistant Coaches ever left him. Dude, no one wanted them!

Ramsey, James, McFadden...so many names in the Secondary that are or will play on Sunday yet they were constantly blowing assignments in college. That's bad coaching.

Charlie Kelly inherited Pruitt's Defense Scheme, but it might as well have been written in Sanskrit since he clearly has zero understanding of how to properly use it.

And I've lost count of the number of 5 Star WR Recruits that played for FSU and never made it to the NFL.

Fisher is an arrogant, know-it-all jerk that already had players thinking about transferring. He will not be missed.

Other than Derwin James the kids in the FSU Secondary are going to need to be coached up more than the norm, which is why I'd steer clear unless they are a steal.

Everyone complains that OLinemen aren't prepared in college for the pro game; in Zimmer's eyes, the same seems to be true of CBs.  So for both positions, it's important to pick a guy a year earlier than you need him.

Even if Newman retires at the end of the year, we're ok for 2018 starters.  Waynes is better than people think, and Alexander is playing better, too.  Rhodes-Waynes-Alexander, with Brock and FNG stud rookie, is nice for 2018.  After having the rook for 2018, you can make a better decision whether or not to re-sign one of Waynes or Alexander (likely for cap reasons) and roll with the 2018 pick.

As for OL, if Berger retires as expected, then I like the idea of moving Remmers to RG, moving Hill to RT, and using a high draft pick to take a developmental/swing OT.

Your O-Line room would be  Reiff-Easton-Elflein-Remmers-Hill.   Back-ups Sirles-Isidora-Collins-FNG Rookie.  Smile
