Rick Spielman Travels to Norman to Watch Baker Mayfield?
#21
They must have a plan for the single most important position on the team. We just do not know what it is. So what do we think we know?:
1. Teddy is healthy and Zimmer loves him. But he has never played at the level Case is playing now.
2. Case is playing really well and seems to be cutting down on the crazy plays. Zimmer likes him but not sure how much he trusts him.
3. Case says he wants to stay in Minnesota. But some team may offer him a Mike Glennon-type contract. That's hard to pass up.
3. We know nothing about the progress of Sam's knee or whether he is interested in coming back.  He has the most traditional talent of the 3, but seems like an enigma. Are the Vikings done with Sam after this season (or already)?
4. Much of Case's success is on Case. Can't deny that. But how much of it is Shurmur? Could Teddy do the same with this offense? Could Alex Smith? Tyrod Taylor? Cousins?
5. Will any team offer Teddy a big contract or will he return for a short-term deal with a team option on year 2?
(6. Are we losing Shurmur after this season?)

#6 is the big one that could change things. A deep playoff run likely protects Shurmur though since he wouldn't have the opportunity to interview. At the end of the day Shurmur likely deserves another head coaching gig, he go the shaft in Cleveland and others inside the league know that. But if precedence holds true they will want to see him produce like he has for one more season before he gets multiple opportunities.

We lost two coordinators to the AFC North, and I do not think the league needed to see them succeed as coordinators for a second year. After the record-setting '98 season with Moss et al, we lost Brian Billick to the Ravens. He went on to win a SB with a great defensive team. Then after one year of Tomlin as our D-coordinator, we lost him to Pittsburgh where he too won a SB.  Is it Cinci's turn to steal one this year?

That was ages ago, Dade. Retreads are not the hot commodity now, hip young Coordinators are. Shurmer is killing it but would still be considered a retread.

Didn't they change the rules again about coaches interviewing during the playoffs?

I dont think they can do interviews the week of a game IIRC,  but coaches that have a first round bye are available as well as coaches that are in the superbowl if they are willing.  ( i might be wrong on this but this is how I think it is)
