This past early summer, I tried to upgrade to wireless internet/internet TV (Roku), and free, over-the-air HD TV. I killed our local phone company service and went with VoIP, DirecTV and a local (spendy) internet provider who could not even deliver 3.0 mbps speed out here in the country.
I got an HD antenna, but have not been able to get local stations. I was given an ultimatum by the Trophy Wife that I better have NBC by Thanksgiving morning so she can watch the Macy's parade...OR ELSE! She has watched it since she was 4 years old, and she has NEVER missed it, and the gauntlet was thrown down.
So I reviewed the split antenna from the new HD antenna (finally), had to replace the connector, and still could get no signal. I fiddle-farted around with the settings, and found that i needed to scan/find the local HD TV stations and get them "found" in the tuner.
I now have 49 FREE TV stations in HD, plus all the internet TV station options in Roku, (I do subscribe to Sling), and we not only get the NBC affiliate in HD, but I get CBS in two time zones, ABC, Fox, Public TV (four of them), and a bunch of other over-the-air channels that I have not figured out.
So because of the Trophy Wife's demand and ultimatum, I can watch today's Vikings/Rams game at home, instead of at the local sports bar. And I can watch the Vikings-Lions game early Thursday morning, whilst I get the turkey and related food-prep ready...at home.
Thank you to the Trophy Wife for this pre-Thanksgiving gift! There. I said it.
