I wonder if Minneapolis wants a Home Team Super Bowl
#1
Walking around USB Stadium yesterday, I allowed myself to fantasize about the Vikings potentially hosting SB52. If you're downtown much, you see a lot of signs the businesses are excited about the game. (I think they might be expecting a bit too much, but that's another topic.) My first thought was that it would be ideal if the Vikings made it to this year's SB. But then I started wondering about that.

A lot of attendees at any SB are neutral - it's just a party. I suspect some don't even watch the NFL regularly. Those won't matter. But aside from those, imagine if half the fans are from Minnesota: fewer hotel rooms, less air travel, fewer meals eaten downtown, maybe less parking because local people would take trains or bus. All the people hoping to rent their house to visitors for big $$ would have fewer customers.

I would like to think home state pride would make Minneapolis business owners glad of the Vikings' success, but I think many are hoping for other teams in the game.

Well they just announced Dave Matthews will be playing the 4th Annual "Night before Concert" at the Excel Center on Saturday night.  I went to see if I could get a hotel room but they are all sold out.  There is a few available but the cost is crazy.quote

I ended up finding a hotel in Burnsville and there's only a hand full left there.  The hotel\motel industry is loving that weekend.

How crazy would it be if after all the years of potential relocation and LA, and stadium approval, ownerships changes, etc, we end up beingthe team plays a super bowl at home?

How about a SKOL ICELANDIC chant at the Super Bowl?

i will say this, this team beats, LA, DET and CAROLINA, including the bears, pack and bengals, this team is a true team of destiny.

I'm sorry but this makes as much sense to me as Brian Billick in 1998 saying that the Minnesota is lucky that we didn't win the NFCCG because we would have likely lost the SB and we couldn't have handled that.

San Fran Niners basically had a home Super Bowl - they just played it about 30 miles South at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto. Worked out well for the Bay Area AND San Fran -

i can see his question... there is a lot more money to be made if 2 teams from outside of minnesota are in the minnesota superbowl assuming that a large number of locals are able to even get tickets to the events.  I can see the money people in the metro area preferring the Vikes not be involved so to increase the number of people coming in from out of the area.  How many of the 68,000 tickets will even be made available to the public?

I don't think it is a ton of tickets that are available.

IMO it would only add to the number of people.  Viking fans from the rest of the country would travel in droves.  All the normal SB attendees would still be there.  And pretty much all of Minnesota would be there.  Doubt they would have a profit issue.
