Any thoughts on the differences between the team at this point this year versus last. Other than injuries of course.
5 game win streak in the middle instead of 5-0 start

Offensive line was a liability last year. This year it is not liability and actually strength.

Playing more like a team this year VG.
Last there was a lot going on behind the scenes.

I think the D in 2016 was feasting on TOs...once teams stopped turning it over as frequently, we started to have issues on that side of the ball...
Another thing is Shurmur is running his offense not Norvell's...HUGE difference...players are put into position to do what they do best...no more square pegs in round holes... Lastly having a mobile QB vs 2016 is paying dividends...not that Case is running for big yards, but he can evade and re-set really well...showed that multiple times vs Washington...

Better scheme, better oline, better depths, and lessons learned.

Quote: @Norse said:To me, that is huge. They are all on the same page so big things can happen. They work together and celebrate together. I love seeing the OL work and I love seeing them reap the rewards. Making huge blocks and moving people. Murray is looking much better than before. He looks like he is recovering nicely. McKinnon is doing a great job. Of course the receivers are also. The defense is working as a strong unit. The cohesiveness is there on both sides of the ball. Free agency has had a positive impact. Harrison is always making plays. Griffen too and now Barr is back on track. Good stuff everywhere.

I have accused this team in the past, especially the defense, of having a fragile psyche. I feel like this season we've toughened up where that is concerned. For all the hand wringing going on regarding the QB situation, I am still waiting to see our defense just absolutely shut someone down like they did in 2015. But we have been very lucky thus far where injuries are concerned on that side of the ball. In 2015 we had Smith, Joseph, Floyd and Rhodes hurt at different times throughout the season and yet we came a Blair Walsh fug up away from the divisional round.
There are no excuses for this defense this season. As long as we don't have a huge rash of injuries, that unit needs to outdo the best it has done up to this point under Zim's tenure...and by that I also mean they may just have to carry this team too. |
