Quarterback-desperate Texans ink Josh Johnson
Texans signed QB Josh Johnson.
Matt McGloin has been waived in a corresponding roster move. Bouncing around the back end of 53-man rosters for years, 31-year-old Johnson hasn't attempted a regular season pass since 2011. The Texans are shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic. There's only one free agent quarterback capable of helping them, and they don't seem interested. Tom Savage and whoever else ends up making starts down the stretch will sink Deshaun Watson's ship.

Say what you will about Kaep, but he got his team to the Super Bowl. He has talent. Not sure how anyone with a straight face can possibly say he isn't being blackballed by the league. He most assuredly is. Whether that's proven in a court of law, who knows?
Is he great? Probably not. But he beats the crap out of who some of these teams have signed the last year or so.
The same could be said of Tebow. If you agree that he was black-balled... then I'll agree that Kap is.
As for getting a team to the Super Bowl... he "got them there" the same as Dilfer did: with a great supporting cast.

Kaepernick is better than a 1/3 of the starters playing in the NFL right now. I just don't see anyone signing him at this point. He'd have to come in cold, learn a new offense, deal with all the media distraction, and he'd likely have to be a backup, and sign for peanuts, neither of which I think he's prepared to do.
I do think Savage will improve though. He actually started to settle down a bit as the game went on, finishing 10 for 16, 130 yards and a TD, but he was god-awful in the beginning. His passes were just WAY off. Savage looked good this summer. He actually beat out Watson for the starting job and was pulled in the first game because he has ZERO mobility behind Houston's terrible OL. Texans have to adjust to that with more of a quick strike passing game and they haven't done that.
1/3? If you're serious about that (and not being hyperbolic), I'd love to hear the 11 starting QB's you think he's better than!

pumpf...c'mon. Your agenda is showing. Tebow sucked. Kaep played some great football, Tebow NEVER did. Its a joke. Don't even go there with freaking Tebow. Kaep certainly wasn't consistent the last year or so he played, but the Tebow comparison is so ridiculous. What does Tebow have to do with Kaep anyway?
I was in San Francisco for 4 years and watched Kaepernick come into the league and the ensuing dramas.
Hindsight 20/20 etc. but San Francisco made several mistakes along the way. Letting Alex Smith go was the start. Then as Kaepernick got more successful problems came up. I left right before that.
I heard several times that after the Superbowl run Kaep my friends felt that he spent more time doing magazine shoots and interviews than he spent working on his game, even skipping OTAs.
Then he didnt get along well with Harbough and we know where he went. After that Kaep’s performance started to slide.
Things would be different if they kept Smith and Harbough

How's this:
Beathard, McCown, Keenum, Bortles, Brissett, Savage, Hundley, Osweiler, Kizer, Trubiski, Taylor, Stanton....
There's 12. Lets start with that. Care to argue with any of those?
I didn't think so.

how many of those were backups to start the season? at that time young collin still fancied himself as a starting QB and was holding out for such gig. a team cant be faulted for sticking with the backups that went through the offseason and training camp, and /or has familiarity in the offense. not to mention ones that arent going to piss off half their ticket holders. that list you threw up there are all back ups or rookies that were not likely intended to start.
I ignored the politics completely around Kaep until just this year.
Without much in the way of details, I always thought it was just a case of a benched player showing off a bruised ego and needing some attention back.
I saw him play terrible a few times, and was surprised by how he had apparently been figured out by defenses. Now, his defenders tell me it was all due to nagging injuries as they wax rhapsodic about his amazing skill level.
I don't recall anyone praising his ability when he was stinking up the field. At that time it was okay for color guys to tell the truth about his crappy play. Not anymore. This is racism, BTW.
I also call BS on Pete Carrol saying he couldn't sign him because 'he's a starting QB'.
I was a big fan when he single-handedly creamed Green Bay in the playoffs. Run left, run right, too fast. Holy Cow amazing. I get it.
Now, I don't care if he ever plays another down.
And what team would want to take on his new baggage? Only to be called racist if he isn't made the immediate starter?
So far, none of them.

good players lose sponsorship dollars when they make unpopular decisions/stands.... bad players lose their careers... I guess the market has decided on kaepernicks skill level for us.

kap ceased to be much of a consistent threat when the league said the wildcat/read option QBs didnt have the protections of the Qb position. once he started to get hit more often his game when to shit IMO. and he didnt help himself any by messing with his diet and losing all that weight/muscle mass.
I wouldn't say that his game has gone to shit. As recently as last year, Kaepernick threw for 16 TDs against only 4 INTs and rushed for another 2 scores for a QB rating of 90.7. He is easily better than many of the QBs that teams are trotting out there right now.
And now that dozens and dozens of players around the league have also not stood for the national anthem, why is Kaepernick the only one who seems so polarizing? Because he was the first, or a QB? Say what you will, but he made a very unpopular decision to stand up (no pun intended) for what he believed in and has also put his money where his mouth is by donating $1 mil to organizations working in oppressed communities. I can think of a lot worse going on in America right now than that.
