Juniors And RSOPH Of Note
#1
Josh Rosen - QB - Bruins UCLA junior QB Josh Rosen is viewed by NFL evaluators as the likeliest from the 2018 class to start from day one.
A group of seven evaluators gushed to Charles Robinson over Rosen's ability to "spin the ball" and his throwing motion. That group also listed Rosen as the top quarterback prospect in the class. We will continue to hear about possible signs of immaturity with Rosen, but things are swinging in his direction as the top prospect at his position.

One NFC personnel member was turned off by USC redshirt sophomore QB Sam Darnold due to his "loopy motion" and "bad face."
That's a new one. The quote derives from Charles Robinson's recent piece and places the conversation back in June, but we are amazed a person paid to evaluate for an NFL team focuses on a player's "face," concluding with "overrated" and "you can have him." In terms of actual football criticisms, Robinson goes on to cite scouts' concerns about Darnold wanting to force big plays by leaving the pocket too early. Be sure to check out the full piece below.

Michael Jackson - DB - Hurricanes
Miami beat writer Peter Ariz reports junior CB Michael Jackson is leaning towards entering the 2018 NFL Draft.
2017 was Jackson's only season as a starter, but like other Miami defenders he definitely took the next step. Thomas recorded four interceptions this season. Declarations aren't official until January.

Tremaine Edmunds - LB - Hokies
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline writes that Virginia Tech junior OLB Tremaine Edmunds has developed into "a tremendous force" at the position.
Pauline notes that the 6-foot-5, 236-pound Edmunds possesses a knack for "disrupting the action up the field and behind the line of scrimmage as well as outside the box." The junior is still weighing his options in terms of a declaration, saying several days ago that he will let HC Justin Fuente and staff make the final decision as to whether or not he should submit paperwork to the NFL draft advisory committee. He'll be in the late first-round discussion if he does declare. Edmunds finished up the regular-season campaign having recorded a meaty 101 tackles (14.0 for loss), 5.5 sacks and three fumbles forced while playing in all 12 of Virginia Tech's games.

Josh Allen - QB - Cowboys
Walter Football's Charlie Campbell relays that team scouts at the National Football Scouting meetings believe that Wyoming redshirt junior QB Josh Allen remains very much in play to be drafted within in the top 10 picks.
"Sources say Allen also has a good football IQ," Campbell writes, adding that "[a]n AFC director of college scouting stated there are too many quarterback-starved teams around the league for Allen to fall far." Should USC's Sam Darnold return to school -- Campbell is hearing that he will and there have been consistent rumblings that this is a possibility -- the analyst passes along that there are some in the evaluating community who believe the Wyoming gunslinger will end up as the second-highest graded quarterback in the spring draft behind only UCLA's Josh Rosen.

Anyone else read any of the comments on the top 4-5 QBs that could be in this class and want to scream "Bull Shit"? Damn near every single one of the guys I thought would go in the top 10 have collectively shit the bed, went out to Taco Bell and ordered one of everything, and shit the bed again...Allen was HORRIFIC...Darnold had more turnovers than your local bakery...Rosen was hot and cold, then injured...they'll get over-drafted on position as none of these guys have any merit going top 10 anymore...at least IMO...

Josh Rosen - QB - Bruins
Walter Football's Charlie Campbell reports that UCLA junior QB Josh Rosen is expected to forego his final year of eligibility to declare for the NFL Draft.
No real surprise, here. Assuming Rosen does declare (it would be a stunner if he does not), he will be in play to be the first quarterback selected -- and perhaps the first player selected, period -- come the spring draft. There's no disputing his obvious physical talents (he has the arm to make any throw), but character concerns and questions of demeanor are frequent demerits that we've heard regarding the junior. Campbell notes that "[t]here has been talk in the scouting community about Rosen having bad intangibles and being disliked by his teammates at UCLA, especially during his early time with the Bruins." The analyst does soften that a bit in passing along that Rosen has been trying to make strides in the locker room. While these character questions are almost certainly going to linger throughout the evaluating process, it is unlikely that they cause him to take a significant tumble. His upside is just too great.

Mark Andrews - TE - Sooners
Oklahoma redshirt junior TE Mark Andrews won the John Mackey Award.
Andrews, the first Oklahoma player to ever win the award, bested Wisconsin senior Troy Fumagalli and Penn State senior Mike Gesicki for the hardware. Heading into the college football playoffs with potentially two games left to play, the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Andrews boasts a 58-904-8 (15.6 YPC) receiving line. While not the same type of physical freak that 2017 TEs O.J. Howard, David Njoku and Evan Engram were, Andrews is smooth, polished and dangerous as a receiver wherever he lines up. Oklahoma likes to move him around to find mismatches, sometimes putting Andrews in the slot. If he declares for the draft, he's looking at late-Round 1 or early-Day 2 grades. Andrews and Dallas Goedert would likely duke it out for TE1 duties if so.

Baker Mayfield - QB - Sooners
SI's Albert Breer spoke with on AFC scouting director who believes Oklahoma senior QB Baker Mayfield is not similar to Johnny Manziel because the Sooner "studies his ass off."
This was backed up by another scouting director stating Mayfield knows where he is going with the football at any part of the progressions thanks to his knowledge and preparation, which is different than many failed quarterbacks. The comparison will pop up due to Mayfield's height and success outside of structure. For many, a shorter frame is viewed as a major negative. "I don’t think it’s a problem for Baker," one NFL executive concluded.

Derrius Guice - RB - Tigers
LSU junior RB Derrius Guice says he's still up "in the air" about whether or not to declare for the NFL Draft.
In a post Monday night on Instagram, Guice indicated that he wouldn't announce his intentions until after LSU plays Notre Dame on Jan. 1 in the Citrus Bowl. Last season, in nearly an identical situation, LSU RB Leonard Fournette decided to skip the bowl game. Guice has given no indication either way. He did say, however, that he's "finally 100% thank the lord" after dealing with a knee issue earlier this fall. Guice is a projected top-15 pick if he declares. "We’ve seen him come back and dominate," Bleacher Report's Matt Miller said of Guice's knee issues. "He’s so pretty running the ball. Guice is so natural as a runner. He makes everything look easily. He runs with power and patience. It’s rare to find that balance." Miller believes Guice is in the "7-15 pick range" if he enters the draft.

Baker Mayfield - QB - Sooners Oklahoma senior QB Baker Mayfield was awarded the Maxwell Award on Thursday.
It's the second award that Mayfield has won on Thursday, as he also took home the Davey O'Brien award for best quarterback. The award is given to the top collegiate player in the country, in the eyes of the award's committee. The other finalists were Penn State's Saquon Barkley and Stanford's Bryce Love. It was a stellar season for Mayfield, throwing for 45 touchdowns and 4,340 yards in his senior campaign, leading the Sooners to a playoff spot and playing Georgia for the right to advance to play in the National Championship Game.

Alabama junior DB Minkah Fitzpatrick won the Chuck Bednarik award on Thursday.
Fitzpatrick also took home the Jim Thorpe award earlier on Thursday evening for best defensive back, and now he takes home the award for best overall defensive player. He beats out NC State's Bradley Chubb and Georgia's Roquon Smith. The star defensive back finished his regular season with 44 tackles, five passes defended and one interception for the Crimson Tide. He's projected as a potential top ten pick if he does chose to enter the NFL Draft, and will get a chance to show off against one of the top offensive unites in the Sugar Bowl against Clemson.

Florida redshirt junior DT Taven Bryan announced on Twitter that he'll enter the 2018 NFL Draft.
"Coach (Dan) Mullen coming back to Gainesville made this decision very difficult because I have the highest regard for him and I believe he is going to bring greatness to #GatorNation," Bryan wrote. The 6-foot-4, 295-pounder broke out in 2017 after previously being used as part of a rotation. He finished with 40 tackles, six TFL, four sacks and three quarterback hurries. If Bryan tests well at the combine as expected, he'll have a decent chance to go on Day 2. Walter Football's Charlie Campbell, who reported in late November that Bryan would declare, has heard Bryan compared by scouts to the Chiefs' Chris Jones and the Broncos' Derek Wolfe.

Wyoming redshirt junior QB Josh Allen (shoulder) said his shoulder still isn't where he wants it to be.
Allen indicated that he'll know in the next few days if he'll be able to play in the bowl game. The Cowboys gunslinger has repeatedly stated that he'll play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Dec. 22 against Central Michigan if he's healthy enough to do so. Allen will declare for the NFL Draft after that game. He was honored by the school on Senior Day as a farewell.

Orlando Brown - T - Sooners NFL Media's Lance Zierlein believes Oklahoma junior Orland Brown could emerge as the top T prospect in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Zierlein is extremely plugged into the NFL evaluation process, specifically offensive linemen. So, when Zierlein states "I think Orlando b\Brown probably goes 1st based on what I know so far" when asked which prospect at the position will be drafted first, we listen. Brown is a mountain of a man, with a listed size of 6-foot-8 and 342-pounds. Oklahoma's offensive line was one of the best in the country this season.
