My daughter was being bullied by some scumbag in 8th grade.

I went straight to the principal and explained how I would come to the school and hurt the bastard if it doesnt stop immediately - and let him handle the political aftermath.

The kid was suspended for a week and it stopped.

Same thing for my daughter in the same grade. A boy tripped her, threw rocks at her, and emptied a water bottle on her pants and yelled for everyone to look that she pee'ed her pants.

We reported it to the school, and the boy was suspended for a week. He came back and continued to mouth threats to her (nothing verbal, but he would "mouth" threats). I called the parents, and told them what was going on, and the parents had the nerve to say that he did nothing wrong, and my daughter was just being sensitive.

I lost my biscuits and let them know that in no world is it okay for their son to touch, intimidate, or endanger my daughter again. I wasn't necessarily composed ("You might be sensitive too if I were bouncing rocks off your head...").
Clearly their sweet prince could do no wrong, and my frustration wasn't helping.

We let the school know what he was doing, and the boy was suspended another week, and had to attend an expulsion meeting. He wasn't expelled, but he hasn't even looked at my daughter since.

I dont know if there is anything I hate more than bullying. ( I was tormented a lot growing up) I have always told my kids that I would whoop their asses if I ever heard of them taking part in tearing down another person.

I think that is also why I get so pissed at racism... its just another form of bullying IMO.

I was also bullied for a couple grades. Ended up beating the $hit out of one of the bullies (I'm little so it surprised a few) and it mostly quit. Now days if I would have done want I did to that kid I'm sure I'd have been arrested or similar lol.

Bullies suck and I'm sure most of us have been on the bum side of it. I've done my best to teach our kids to stand up for people.

I went from being one of the smallest kids my age, to being bigger than most, but it didnt change how I viewed myself, the mind fucking that bullying causes is way worse than the physical shit.

i have a wicked temper, so even after I grew I was hesitant to let go on people, the few times I have I kind of scared myself, besides thats not who I want to be.

Middle school sucks

My daughter was fairly popular, but one of her friends was a gay male. He was constantly getting hassled, even beat up in the bathroom one day. She started spending more time with him and told the bullies to back off...they did. He went to a different high school but by the end of middle school they were best friends.

She also intervened when kids took another girls teddy bear (special ed. girl) and started throwing it around. The girl was panicked as the guys tossed it back and forth...my daughter said "here...throw it here...(pretending to play along)
they threw her the bear and she took it over to the girl and gave it back to her, as she was crying / visibly upset. She gave the guys a verbal ass-whuppin' about what "big shots" they were for picking on someone smaller who won't defend themselves. "Does bullying people make you feel like your a tough guy? It just makes you a DICK, so leave her alone"

You hit the nail on the head. Bullying isn't a kid problem, it is a parent problem. Parents think that their child does no wrong and will defend the child against the discipline of the school. The anti-bullying stuff we now see only hurts the kid being bullied. The kid can't stand up for themselves because then they get in trouble.

There will always be bullies. I was bullied a lot. Eventually I stood up for myself and it ended. But I was miserable for many years. My kids have been bullied, but now, the bully doesn't get disciplined. They just change tactics. The parents enable that kid and will threaten the school, withhold money, or transfer the kid elsewhere if the school dares to discipline them. So until parents realize their kids aren't perfect, allow the kid to take some lumps if they deserve it, we won't have a solution to the bullying problem.
