Diggs, Floyd injuries offer prove-it chance for Treadwell
#1
Back in August, Laquon Treadwell held court following a training camp practice, telling several reporters that he’d seen the light. He’d learned from stars Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen how to “win” against NFL corners and spent this offseason focusing on technique and route running.
Through the first five games, the Minnesota Vikings didn’t need Treadwell to prove that he’d grown. They needed him to block and play decoy while Diggs and Thielen dominated.
But with Diggs out against the Packers, he was called upon to play a role in the passing game. He showed some of the growth he talked about in camp by coming up with his best career day: Three catches for 51 yards, including a one-handed grab that made every NFL highlight show.

The spotlight has been on Treadwell since the beginning of last season when he did not appear in the Vikings’ opening game and didn’t make his first career catch until the team’s eighth game – his only reception of the season.

Head coach Mike Zimmer has supported his 6-foot-2, 215-pound receiver, saying last year that he appreciated Treadwell’s ability to get in and out of routes and saw him as a hard worker.
Now that he’s needed, that support will only go as far as Treadwell’s production. If the ex-Ole Miss star proves to be a viable receiving option, the Vikings will feel set at the receiver position for a long time. Struggles to make an impact, however, could result in this being his final year in purple.

What???

This is his second year and rookies usually sign 4 year contracts.  If you are a first rounder, which he was, you can do a 5 year option.  Final year in purple????????

You can still cut them at any time... there was plenty of talk of trading or cutting Treadwell if he didn't produce this year which would have made it his final year.

Treadwell still doesn't get open. He sure wasn't open on that play he made the amazing catch. He had 3 catches for 51 yards last week....and this was by far his best performance. I mean, the media is losing their minds over him it seems but he hasn't done a thing other than make 1 amazing catch.

Think of Treadwell as a post up player as opposed to someone who can create off the dribble...

He'll win with position and catch radius...

Like some dude had already said, he uses his size to his advantage when going up against CBs.
I don't think he will ever be that type of player that can get open on a regular. You throw it to Treadwell, and once Treadwell can have confidence in himself, he will catch it and that is where you will see just how important he CAN be.

I'll take one amazing catch among two others over what he produced last year. He's improving and taking advantage of the snaps he's getting, and that's the important thing.

He's got 8 catches for 93 yards over 6 games as a starter this season. Improvement? Yes. But the bar was set incredibly low. He does nothing special at all.

Single coverage with inside leverage against a smaller CB...that's open as hell for Treadwell and really any NFL reciever,  that's all the more he needs.  it's on the QB at that point for not throwing him the ball.  They need to learn to trust him that he wont leave their pass exposed and he has to make sure he either catches the ball or makes sure the defender doesnt.
