I checked the Best Before date on Wentz and saw that it was expired.
Cousins is being released at Atlanta...no trade capital would be involved...and yes, I agree that he realizes he's been paid and likely will accept his role. There are worse choices.
I am so sick of Kwesi's trades that were "poof...and there he was...gone!"
I'm particularly fond of first three or four round picks...but after that, the crapshoot percentage increases dramatically.

If Wentz is reassembled, he should get a shot. If not him, and IF...massive IF...Cousins has accepted that he's not due starter money or guaranteed starter rank, then he'd be awesome if the price was right.
Mac Jones only gets more expensive as the talks keep growing. Willis should be a shoo-in for Pittsburgh or Miami. Let Rodgers walk away, and macro-dose his way to enlightenment, or whatever.
Bring in competition, but do NOT pause the development of JJM.
Schefter said this morning that the 49ers are absolutely not trading Mac Jones. I think they will if they get a Godfather offer, but I don't think he's an option for the Vikings. He'll cost a 2nd rounder and the Vikings haven't had one in 4 years. Do we really want to go for 5?
I also think Malik Willis is never going to happen for Minnesota. It's like Darnold last year. He's a free agent and can choose his next team. He's not going to come to Minnesota to compete with our QB when a handful of teams can, and likely will, offer him a starting gig.
It won't be Wentz either. I'd bet my bottom dollar on that. You fired your GM because you missed on Darnold, Jones and Rodgers. Now that you're in charge, you bring back the exact same QB room Kwesi gave you last year? Not a chance. The optics of that are just horrible.
The Vikings will definitely make their calls to the Bengals, Ravens and Chargers, but good luck with that. The more I think about it, the more I think it will be someone like Cousins, Rodgers, Trubisky, Jimmy G, or Mariota.

I agree and think this is the most likely path as it would give OConnell a real chance to save his job while also not giving up on McCarthy. Give me Rodgers out of that group

Yah, the optics of Wentz coming in would be terrible - ptsd for fans like me, and I think we can do better.

My $ is on Rogers walking from the game, or staying in Pitt believing Olde Mike McCarthy can conjure up some magic for a season. I think he'd only want to come here to start and I dont blame him at that age.
I honestly think its going to be more of somebody like JG or Mariota...Someone who can compete in this system, but not a clear #1 Qb coming in.
Kirko is just too soon imo, not enough time has passed. OTOH, I could talk myself into believing he's a dark horse though. KOC might still be enamored with what he could do here if he's healthy. I assume they had a good history together?
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

I don’t think Cousins or Rodgers really have backup QB in their nature. I think both guys would rather retire than be a backup or subject themselves to a competition with a guy who struggled last year. I also don’t think Cousins is going to be willing to come back here with or without a competition. I agree that it’s too soon, but also who wants to go back to a company that fired you (I understand that the Vikings offered him a contract, but it was a shit contract compared to the market, and we all knew that except those who prefer to be bitter)

Mariota just isn't a good quarterback and I think he's a marginal backup. I'd rather have Winston over him. Jimmy G hasn't played any meaningful football for three years and will be 35 in November. The most exciting option to me with the most upside is still JJ McCarthy
