Bright spot: Dallas Turner
#1
I thought Turner played a helluva game yesterday. Definitely played better than I envisioned he would.

Dallas Turner's true spot is where Greenard plays in Flo's D, so he's playing out of position sometimes and other times just getting Greenard's rest reps...which aren't many when he's healthy. He definitely flashed yesterday. When Cashman and Van Ginkel are both playing and he can get the amount of reps in a game when Greenard is out, that's his optimal space. He needs to stack some good games and maybe he'll get that chance if Greeny misses a few more games.

I agree, he looks much more at home in Greenards spot...

That said, he still hasn't dominated like I would have liked given his draft position.

Maybe more still to come? I hope so.

I think he needs to get bigger/stronger, which seems to be true of young NFL linemen on both sides of the ball.
We need JJM to season, ASAFP....

I saw some encouraging things, but there were many times Kmet was blocking him one on one and Kmet held his own. I know they grow those TE's up right in South Bend, but no TE should be able to block Turner one on one. You have to make them pay for that decision

I didn't see it, he was getting swallowed up by the OT, just not strong and physical enough to get through OL. On one of the big plays of the game he completely took himself out of it by rushing way wide, because he he is not capable of beating the OT. He also almost cost us the chance to get the ball back to take the lead with what should have been another stupid roughing the passer penalty. Watched the Rams after our game and what a difference in the physicality and strength of Verse.

Yeah....Verse is amazing. Far superior to Dallas Turner. No other way to slice that. Thanks KAM.

I honestly had Turner as the top defensive player in the draft two years ago. Just incredible bend in getting to the quarterback. Great athlete. Very productove at Bama. I think what's hindered him is much the same that's hindered McCarthy. He was the youngest player in the entire draft, immediately is behind on the depth chart to established veterans, and has to learn a different roll in a complex scheme. There's been a learning curve for sure and I hope he gets to the point where he is just reacting instead of overthinking everything. I think he is getting there, and as I stated in another thread, I'd love to see him start or see significant playing time the remainder of the season to let him develope and the coaches having a better idea of exactly where he is at in his development.

Turner's definitely better going forward than backward. He now has more sacks per snap than Jared Verse does...this year.

They were the same two things I noted: very young and undersized. He came to TC bigger and stronger. He flashed Sunday. Maybe its the start of something. I don't feel confident about it, but its not like I've never been wrong before. Would love to see him pop.
