Post game thoughts

Disappointing game.  Started well, but I was stressing by the second quarter.
  • Mason is struggling in pass-pro.  Whiffed on Hamilton giving up a huge pressure and knockdown by Hamilton
  • Refs seemed to favor Baltimore.  I know we jumped 8 times.  But calling it on a QB?  When does that ever happen?  At one point late in the game Baltimore only had 1 penalty for 5 yards.
  • False starts at home?  Something was up with JJ's cadence.  Either he was just amped and barking louder, or we were trying to get Balt to jump.  Whatever the case, it wasn't working.
  • Jefferson seemed disinterested.  Seemed almost lethargic, getting tripped up on that deep INT and then not hustling.
  • Absolutely no issue with the deep shot on 3rd and 1.  Jefferson 1-1 with no safety?  Who wouldn't take a shot on that matchup?  Those criticizing that play are hiding behind the 20/20 hindsight or just don't understand football.  How often do we complain that coaches don't go for the kill shot?  That was a kill shot and a great call.  Didn't work out, but it was still a great call.
  • Our run game seems better, should have leaned on it more, but I really don't think play calling was the issue here.
  • The INT was a big moment, but the fumble on the kick return was bigger.  Short field, the D rallied so many times holding them to FGs, but couldn't stop this one.
  • Wonder where Price's head is at going forward.  Fumbled the next return as well.
  • Nailor stepped up in a big way.  That 4th down catch where he double clutched it was huge.  The TD was a thing of beauty.
  • How many tipped balls did our D just miss?  I think there were 3 that had potential, but just fell short.  Could have been a huge difference
  • But the D played a tremendous game IMO.  Van Ginkel is such a great player.  Causes the other team so many issue.

I just read a blurb from Jones saying that the Ravens were playing a "little game" to get those false starts...I'm not sure what that was, but I'm very curious.
I'm concerned for Price, too, because he was money up 'til yesterday.
Totally agreed on Nailor.
Take the Momentum and Build, Vikings!!

Interesting.  Feed me any details on that if you find it.

That call on Thielen was absolute crap as well.  After Gink got blocked in the back on a crackback last week, it makes it even worse.

Van Gink is awesome - more so than even Greenard (who I hope is ok)

Jalen Redmond is on his way to being the next K Dub

You're tip-toeing around 2 elephants in the room Greed

I think KOC called a terrible game, especially given where the QB is at. I DID NOT anticipate this ever happening
Right now JJM intangibles far outweigh his production
Glad you're calling out Jefferson, he's deserved of criticism

Love Jalen as well.   K-will without the draft drama.  Greenard is playing well, just can't quite close on the sacks.  He has had so many slip out of his grasp.

I didn't think it was terrible.  JJ was placing the ball pretty well, the almost INT by their LB was a bit behind, but overall JJ was throwing the ball well.  One bad decision on the deep INT into double coverage, but that wasn't a play call thing.  JJ just stepped up and didn't see the safety.  Should have ran that.  Our run calls were moving the ball.  I just don't see that issue.

What was with the announcers tho?  On that LB INT that was overturned, ball obviously moved, seemed like an easy reversal.  They were saying it wasn't.

Didn't get to see a replay of the questionable interference on Harrison either.

I thought it was a shit call.  You have a disinterested receiver with a rookie quarterback that was off his game and you call that pass play, and by the way I do know football.  Why did they sign Mason if they don't trust the offense to convert a 3rd and 1?  Run the damn ball and if you don't make it run on 4th down.  This fucking team is soft and needs to start knocking the crap out of teams especially at home.

Another thing they need to stop the SKOL chant until the team is able to actually play like a professional team at home.  Its just stupid to do the chant and then have the team come out and lay an egg.

Purple daily dropped a blistering factoid that accurately depicts where KOC is off.

The Vikings had 20 instances where they were in 3rd or 4th down situations ....

Total number of running plays in those instance = 0. Zero. Zip. Nada.

42 pass attempts is egregious, for JJ and the OL

KOC is having JJ call a brown-belt offense with a white belt skill set. The poor kid looked like he needed to breath out of a bag that entire 2nd 1/2.

I luv KOC, but his affinity to pass is a problem right now.

Ok, I'm done

The best WR in football?  This wasn't Bernard Berrian.

As KOC said, you take a shot with 0 coverage.  No safety, best WR in football 1 on 1.  If you don't take that shot you might as well resign as a play caller.  And the could still run on 4th down if they didn't make it.  Taking the safe play is soft.

I agree with everything in the OP, before the deep pass, I was thinking the same thing as we still had 4th down to go for it if it didn't hit. There were so many things that turned the game, the Price fumble and the Flores defense that refuses to make any kind of adjustments, but with a good QB performance we still win the game.

How many more balls have to fly over the heads of wide open WRs before JJ changes his mechanics. On many passes he looks like he is just winding up and throwing as hard as he can. It has been the knock on him and yet he continues to do the same thing over and over again. I was really disappointed in Jefferson yesterday and was beginning to wonder as one ball flew over his head after another if he is just getting really frustrated and defeated, he sees him in practice every day and may be getting tired of not seeing any improvement. I understand the bad reads and decisions are all part of the learning curve, but at this point you need to be able to throw an NFL pass with consistency. He had some beautiful throws and then goes back to throwing darts.
