What's the identity of this squad?
#1
Its not a prolific offense or defense...

Its not a singular or dynamic passer, runner or D stud.

Jetta hasn't been his normal productive self for all the obvious reasons.

A lot of FA $$'s have been dropped and this is about as middling, vanilla and nondescript a squad as I can remember.

They haven't been very entertaining either...Least compared to y.ago (which I enjoyed till the end).

Yawn?

MASH unit. We don’t know what we have yet.

It's tempting for fans to be myopic about this team, to think who they are right now is who they will be the whole season.

Just don't think that's the case with this team. In fact it kinda has that 1987 feel to it. That was a very talented team who underachieved and "backed into" the playoffs....then proceeded to dominate the heavily favored Saints and 49ers on the road.

Or that could just be wishful thinking on my part. Either way, I think the Vikings team we see in December could be a totally different team than the one we're seeing right now. Whether it is or isn't will have a lot to do with #9. And we just have no clarity on that whatsoever.

I think until we have the QB position settled, this team is going to be in a limbo state on offense unfortunately. Last year with Darnold, I think we were a dangerous passing team that could score a lot points and score quickly. This year feels like the Josh Dobbs year, just trying to get whatever we can out of the offense week to week.

Outside of JJ, I think the biggest disappointment of the season has been the DL with the big signings that we made. Both guys have been complete non-factors with the backups outplaying them. Not a lot of push as the line of scrimmage, getting run over and not getting consistent pressure on the QB. Van Ginkel being out has been a very underrated injury as I think he is our best defensive player, I think it has really impacted Greenard as he is getting more double teams.

Like others have said. We’ve been too injured to really start worrying about our identity. The identity we want to have is physical lines, running the ball at will combined with KOC’s highly regarded passing scheme and a defense that clamps down on the passing game while teams are trying to catch up from behind. The KOC’s highly regarded passing scheme would be a work in progress as JJM developed over the course of the season.

Instead, we’ve had key starters missing, our rookie QB missing. We haven’t been physical on OLine. We haven’t been putting points on the board. We haven’t playing with a lead. We haven’t been developing our rookie QB.

Developing our identity is mostly just about getting healthy. It’s about getting a functional OLine, it’s about getting JJM quality reps. We can’t really keep playing the struggle bus on offense all game and hope our defense keeps us in it.
