ESPN: The trip to Europe blew chunks for the Vikings

The Vikings were good company men for the NFL shield, so hopefully they leave our asses alone for a long time. Lots of bullshit the team had to fade, none more important than missing their family for 2 weeks. I'm guessing JJ's new baby thinks the landscape guy is Daddy....

Good for the Vikings for taking one for the league....

How do I think they would have done if they had to go to Pitt and Dawg Pound?

I probably would have guessed .500, exactly what the euro trip produced.

Now they got to get the walking wounded back and just get re-grounded. Oh, and figure out if JJM can play vs Philly or not

Pulling out the Cleveland game was huge, 3-2 is a workable record. But these next 4 games are concerning, its big boy football and I don't know if the Vikings are big boys. And like you say, I expect JJ to start against Philly but I don't think its 100% yet. Need as many of the walking wounded to return as possible. A big questions is if AVG is going to return this year, neck injuries are real bears.

All legit concerns - and big concerns.

I'm not sure I see 2 wins in the next 4. MAYBE 1 vs Chargers or 2 if Lamar doesn't play.

My guess is that they'll probably be in sniffing distance of .500 the bulk of the year.

Lots of chapters left to be written so lets go...

I don’t know if I’d phrase it as taking one for the league. The league didn’t need us or anyone to do back to back games. It’s something we chose to do as we thought it’d give us an advantage and expand our brand. If we didn’t do it, they’d just have to wrangle some other team into doing it. Obviously the toll of being in a foreign country for 10 days is something of a struggle, not going to deny that, but it was compounded with us dealing with bad injury luck and trying to get our QB situation stablized.

I am not a fan of the overseas games.  I think it is great to expand the interest of the game internationally, but not at the expense of teams playing regular season games there.  Looking at the stands on Sunday, there were fans sitting with jerseys from almost every team in the league.  My question is could we just play some pre season games there instead of regular season, it would still have a significant impact. I wonder how many of the fans were there rooting for the Vikings or Browns were from the states.

Regarding this article and the quotes on the challenges of being away for 10 days -  I am sure many of us here have traveled for work and have spent extended time away from family and we did it without flying on a private jet and getting treated like royalty.  I think a group of healthy 20 years olds will be just fine  Smile

Understand wanting to expand the brand but personally I don't like the out of country games.

1. It takes away home field advantage for the "Home Team"
2. The home team ticket holders take one for the team.
3. Local vendors, restaurants, hotels and alike take financial losses
4. They quality goes down. TV coverage was not good, field sucked, Wire in the way. Lots of problems.
5. Excess travel for the players. These guys take a beating, traveling is not easy.
6. Safety. In Brazil didnt they say not to go outside? A back QB was robbed in Dublin?

Im sure the end game (pun intended) is to make it global and expand viewer ship overseas.. I don't like the expense it comes at.

They wanted these games.  They've played internationally 3 out of 4 years for a total of four games.  And NFL teams from the coast routinely do week + trips to play on the other coast, it's not the huge burden this whiny article makes it out to be.

If they don't like it they should complain to their bosses the Wilfs who specifically have told the league they want international games.  They wanna be Jaguars north.

And Goodell has said the league is aiming for 16 international games a year, aka everybody fights no one quits to borrow a line from Starship Troopers.  No doubt when an 18 game schedule is standard and they expand they will put a division in Europe.  No crying in football kids cuz that's what's coming sooner or later.

And I took a trip to Ireland to see the game and really enjoyed the country but it was not cheap for a guy on a budget. The millionaire football players complaints are of little interest from where I sit.

Good for you, I'm envious...I thought about it, but the timing wasn't right as I work to recover medically right now.

How was the trip?

Do tell....
