Hypothetical

If McCarthy has a bad year, say like Richardson, what options are available for 26?

Daniel Jones signed a 1-year deal in Indy, but from the looks of it, he'll get extended. We certainly won't draft one. So that leaves the obvious one in Kirk Cousins to run the show while we give JJ a little more time.

But I think the most likely QB is JJ McCarthy. I don't think he will be, but even if he's terrible this year, I'm pretty sure the prevailing wisdom in Eagan would be that he just needs more time, more reps. He's missed a lot. Let him fight through his struggles this year, learn from his mistakes, go through another training camp, and I think we might like the QB we have in 2026.

I just don't see Minnesota giving up on McCarthy in one year's time. I think its been a long time since the Vikings have drafted a guy at QB and let him cure a bit, it takes a little fortitude from the fanbase. He's got a bunch of the skillset you want from a franchise guy, hopefully he can realize it. But it takes some patience and reps. The last taste of JJM is a little bit bitter because of the Atlanta loss and how he played, but I think some was him and some was stuff outside his influence.

Bottom line: he needs to get back in so we can see what we have in 2025. He needs the growth and to play.

They let a pro-bowl Qb in Darnold walk - and they could have had him in the 30's, not $50mm's
They let Dimes walk
They told Rogers no thanks

They (KOC) are 101% invested in the kid and they wont give-up after a year. NO WAY

Agree. I think they really believe in the kid. And it's not blind faith either. He's really shown flashes. He just has to put it all together.

But here's what makes my skin crawl. If, God forbid, this hypothetical actually happens, the Vikings are going to have to cover their eyes and ears because the shit storm of second-guessing from the media (Sam this, Aaron that) is going to be deafening. And that can do as much damage to a young QB's psyche as anything.

Everyone in our instant gratification culture wants a fully formed answer on JJM after a whopping two games.

My only concern at this point is can he stay healthy.  Beyond that I think he can definitely have a good NFL career.

After Wentz does a Darnold and gets 30-35 next season from a QB hungry team we will start JJ again in 2026.
