Were not going to turn it into a strength, but we gotta do something
Cornerback (4)
Byron Murphy Jr.: What would this room look like had the Vikings not spent handsomely to bring Murphy back? It’s a frightening question. An injury to him would leave the secondary bereft.
Isaiah Rodgers: Flores sought him out, and in training camp, you could see why. Rodgers is tough. He can run. He has ball skills. He must live up to expectations for this defense to reach its potential.
Jeff Okudah: He was signed to play a specific role. He’d play on the short side of the field. He’d use his long arms to impede receivers. It might work. It might not. Replacements need to be at the ready.
Dwight McGlothern: They affectionately call him “Nudie” inside the TCO Performance Center. His ball skills keep him around. Consistency has been the major hurdle.

We do have to factor Metellus into the equation since he plays CB too... but we need another solid option or two. Maybe we ask Gilmore to come back Week 1 so he's pay check to pay check as a vested veteran?

Unsure who the vikings want, 11 picks and 28 mil in cap says it's a player who is more than just a JAG

My favorite Vikings conspiracy theory right now is that they haven't signed an additional CB — like Stephon Gilmore — because they know Asante Samuel Jr. is on the way when he gets a clean bill of health. It just kinda makes sense. Think about it.

Man I don't know. Seems a bit like wishful thinking to me. Not only that but Samuel gets his CT scan in October. So roughly 4-6 weeks into the season. And even then, there are no guarantees he gets a clean bill of health. And it's a spinal fusion. We're going to be covering our eyes every time he makes a tackle. I could be wrong, but I kinda doubt the Vikings would be counting on Samuel to be their savior at CB.

I agree, this doesnt feel like a grand plan for Samuel (if he returns).
Someone posted they'll add some DB's AFTER Wk1. From a contractual, cap standpoint? That makes a ton of sense.

Isn't there some sort of salary cap consideration on veterans after week one? I thought if they were on the roster as of week 1 their salary was guaranteed? If they're signed after week one they are not?
Am I just imagining things?

That is the rule. If they're on the roster week one, their full seasons base salary is guaranteed. If they're signed post week one, they only get paid for the weeks they're here or something like that.

We run 3 safeties, 2 CBs more often when we're in nickel. Our 3rd safety played 87% of snaps. Our 3rd CB played 50% of snaps.
I think at this point they'll just roll with what they have until a CB gets injured and then they'll bring someone in.
