Zero doubt about it. Albert Breer said as much in his MMQB column yesterday and I agree and have said as much also. Making the trade for Thielen shows this to be true because of what they gave up and additionally their belief in McCarthy because its been 'win now' mode all offseason. Only 4 CBs? What, 6 UDFAs make the final roster? Everything screams that they love this roster and the makeup of the team. Actions have followed the words. No need to put this kind of urgency and resources behind this for any other reason....it reeks of confidence.
We'll see, of course. We've been let down before, that's not new territory. Time to strap it up and see what's what. I'm really looking forward to seeing what this team is like in late October/early November.

received from a source on the status of S Harrison Smith and whether or not he’ll be ready for Monday night’s game against the Bears:
“He's doing well, hopefully should be good.”
The Vikings first injury report comes out on Thursday.

JJ McCarthy, from La Grange Park, Illinois, saw his first NFL game in person, Vikings-Bears, with his dad. McCarthy is now making his NFL regular season debut: Vikings vs. Bears.

Crazy to think that we may just have our QB that we have longed for in MN. I mean, that is crazy

There has to be something else done in the CB room. Murphy Jr. is the only decent established starter. You are betting on Jeff Okudah to 1 make it through the season, and 2 hold down the 3rd CB spot? I just don't see it. I thought initially the draft capital being added from the Harrison and Blackmon trades were for a receiver and a CB. Maybe they are waiting after week 1 to sign someone without a season guarantee?

I want to believe that, too. Seems like the beginning of a good match throughout.

Everyone else participated as well, per O'Connell.

Vikings S Harrison Smith, dealing with a personal health issue, participated in walk-thru but won't practice today, per Kevin O'Connell. Still, progress.

I read that they’re listing S Tavierre Thomas as the starting nickel… anyone have any insight on that…?

On the ESPN and CBS Sports depth charts they have him listed as the only nickel, on Vikings.com he is listed as a backup safety. A pretty weird situation. Did not remember seeing much of him in pre season. Maybe Okudah is not ready or they feel he is better on the outside. Not very confident in our secondary, just crazy the weakest part of the defense was not a priority in the off season and had more talent subtracted than gained.

The season is finally starting tonight, great to put the speculation and months of projection opinions to rest and see the real stuff.
p.s. I see so much overblown angst about commercials now on the Redzone, lol. Yes, they hung their hat on commercial-free and it was wonderful but its popularity is why they are monetizing it now. And I think its equity with fans is too strong to really damage it in any significant way with a few commercials....and there will be just a few on a split screen. The freak out artists are saying 'that's why we watched it, no commercials'.....no, why you watched it was its format, popping from game to game in almost real time to see TDs and big pivotal plays. It was and is really unique. No commercials was just a really great byproduct....and oh btw, there were commercials on Redzone last year.

I agree we're weirdly thin at CB. I think we're going to be happy with Isaiah Rodgers, but after that it's nothing but questions. I mean we don't even have a recent middle rounder we can be hopeful about. No Evans, Blackmon or Jackson (RIP). It's megabust Okudah and Nudie.
