If Howell was vastly exceeding expectations up until now, they probably wouldn't have made a move, but I don't think that's what prompted them to make a move. I think Howell to Wentz is a pretty lateral move, but they end up with more draft capital out of the deal. If someone offered Wentz for Howell straight up, I doubt we would have bothered.

I guess my only complaint about all this is the fact that we misjudged the backup quarterback situation, gave up a draft pick for Howell, when we could have had Wentz in here from day 1 instead of bringing him in a week before the season starts and now trying to take a crash course on the KOC offense. Hopefully this is all a moot point though and McCarthy has a great season.

We don't know all the pieces behind the scenes. All we really know is what beat writers have been saying since camp opened - that Howell struggled in practice and wasn't picking up the offense, didn't have the mental chops for KOC's playbook. So we got rid of him and signed a guy who's been in a similar offense for McVay and has way more starting experience than Howell or Rypien. And got something back for Howell which frankly amazes me.

Are we going to have 3 QBs on the 53? If not, we will lose Brosmer, he definitely will not clear waivers to bring him back to the practice squad.

The chances of that happening were slim to none. Nobody was looking at Wentz as a potential starter and this wasn't a Joe Flacco situation. We could have signed him day 1 in free agency with a full mini camp and training camp under his belt learning offense. Instead, we gambled on Sam Howell and missed. Not a huge deal, but it was a misevaluatiin at the backup quarterback position. I am with you though in that I'm surprised we were able to get anything in return for Howell, much less a couple draft picks.

He was probably looking for more than the vet minimum and he probably was hoping for a Daniel Jones type situation where he could at least compete for the starting job. I do have to hand it to Kwesi for making a quick decision and getting more than we paid in draft picks for a player that showed nothing in the preseason. Basically a wash on salary. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/minn...c8e5c9c252 Did anybody notice the corresponding roster cut the Eagles made to bring in Howell?
