Slow to hire, quick to fire is a mantra that I subscribe to and they did that with Howell to their credit. Additionally, they have more ammo to get a WRer in a trade if they go that route. Win/win.
Wentz grew up a Viking fan and if he had an attitude or was hard to get along with, playing for the team you grew up rooting for might change his mindset. Also he should already be familiar with the offense having pretty much played in it with his year with the Rams.

It can be argued that these two trades gave the Vikings a more solid roster than a week ago.
We saw it with our own eyes...Howell was not the guy.
And to be frank, while this is a better outcome than just cutting Howell and keeping Rypien, the reality is that the last time Wentz was actually playing...he was fairly immobile and slow. Having said that, he's a step up from either Howell or Ryien.
I must say though...Kwesi has gotten much better at all phases of roster building than his first couple of years. He does not hesitate, but he also is getting value when a market can be found.
I didn't realize how thin the Eagles were at Jalen Hurts' backup before today:
Updated Eagles Quarterback Room Following Trade for Sam Howell
Updated Eagles Quarterback Depth Chart Following Trade for Sam Howell
QB
Starter Jalen Hurts
2nd Sam Howell
3rd Tanner McKee
4th Dorian Thompson Robinson
5th. Kyle McCord
Given that NFL teams are required to cut their roster down to 53 players by Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET. Philly's quarterback room will likely look a lot different over the next 48-72 hours.

Some pretty good highlights of Wentz running a similar offense in LA late in 2023.

Tanner McKee actually looked pretty good when he played late in the year for Philly. He has a hand or finger injury right now so I think Howell gives them some short-term insurance at QB2 until McKee is ready.

I really thought someone from the Cleveland QB room was going to end-up here (no, not that guy)...
Kenny Pickett is who I would have placed a bet on...But Wentz makes sense in retrospect.

I think this is purely to get more draft capital to try and get a WR, without sacrificing the future draft capital.
