Oh without question. But he's 10 years younger, bigger, faster...he wouldn't come cheap, nor would he likely be happy going to a team where he'd be WR3 at best when Addison returns. 

It really sounds like it's Thielen. I'm mixed about that. Good story, and it will be fun to have him on the team again, but man, dude's 35 years old. The good news I think is that if Thielen's the guy it probably means than they don't expect Nailor to be out long.

I think if it was Pierce, it's either Pierce or Addison next year.  If Pierce ends up your #2 WR after getting a 3 game headstart, you extend him and trade Addison.  You can't have 3 WRs on big contracts even with a QB playing on a rookie deal.

If it's Thielen, he can likely make that happen by walking into the GM's office and telling him it's his last year and if possible he'd like to finish it out at home trying for a Title and thank them for the opportunity.  You can bet McCarthy and Jets have reached out to him already along with some others.  My guess is it would cost a 6th round pick.

I love AT and would like your scenario,  but I dont think you spend a 6th rounder on him in what is likely his last season.   we are going to need to get younger and cheaper at many positions, that is a lot harder to do when we trade away draft picks for band aids.  6th rounders dont mean much,  but it only takes 1 hit to create millions in cap space vs a pricey veteran,  so we better have as many bullets as we can to find that hit.

Thielen has already dropped down to the #3 receiver this year...and ahead of some young guys they like a lot and Hunter Renfrow who appears to actually be panning out for them in his comeback.  Carolina has pretty low expectations this year in spite of a comparatively easy division.  A sixth would likely get it done...particularly if AT helps tilt the scale.

According to ESPN:
Panthers Depth Chart at WR: Tetairoa McMillan, Xavier Legette, Adam Thielen, Jalen Coker, Jimmy Horn Jr., David Moore, Hunter Renfrow

This is the most improved group on the team, so keeping seven initially makes sense. If the Panthers go with six it could make coach Dave Canales' favorite, Moore, expendable with Renfrow showing he's close to the level he played in 2021 when he made the Pro Bowl with the Las Vegas Raiders. Brycen Tremayne, who's had an excellent preseason, will be a tough cut.
