The Purple Persuasion
@TPPSkol
A new candidate for RB3 is emerging from Vikings training camp says
@BenGoessling
.
Making the spot ahead of 4th year vet Ty Chandler was Zavier Scott. Scott spent the 2024 season on the Vikings practice squad but is making some noise at camp.
Goessling adds that "the three preseason games could ultimately determine the third running back spot..." he gives the nod to Scott, as of now.
Another camp battle to keep an eye on.

Know nothing about Scott, but this is good news. We need someone who can push Chandler. He needs to know that if he can't be trusted in pass pro, he can't be RB3.

Overview
Scott is a fun watch on tape thanks to his versatility and the passion he shows on the field. He’s a big athlete who plays fast and with good determination, but he will be much more intriguing for teams with creative play-callers who are looking for multi-dimensional prospects. While he’s not a pure running back, he does possess running back talent and the same can be said about him as a receiver, although he needs much more polish. His toughness with the ball in his hands and potential roster flexibility make him worthy of Day 3 consideration.
Strengths
Offers versatility as a runner, receiver and special-teamer.
Powerful and determined with the ball in his hands.
Sees and gets to cut-and-go opportunities on stretch runs.
Hard to tackle when he gets going.
Plays to his top speed.
Good leaper with above-average catch radius.
Weaknesses
Upright runner getting through the line of scrimmage.
Isn’t a naturally instinctive run-finisher.
Routes lack attention to detail.
Not very sophisticated with his press release.
Needs to work on carving out catch positioning.

I mentioned this in another thread but with the quantity of RBs drafted in April, there will surely be vet RBs released at the final cutdown & it shouldn't be difficult to find a RB3 that's an upgrade to what we currently have.
Having said that, what if they rolled with only Jones & Mason at RB & instead kept 6 WRs? They could stash one or more RBs on the PS. They would have to find a KR to replace Chandler but that's a role that Rondale Moore filled in Arizona.

He sent out a picture and just said "I runs the football and stuffs." I didn't know that would get you dinged on draft day...
(Btw, I know they are talking about getting off the ball, just thought it was funny the way it was written)

With Jones injury history he is not likely to be active for every game, which makes our RB3 position a pretty significant position as it will be a position that is going to be counted on for carries. Chandler has the experience and has looked good at times, unless we pick up someone who gets cut, I would expect him to get the job and Scott to PS.

TE 3 and RB 3 will get sorted out during Preseason, final roster players may not be on the team ,yet
Kwesi has picks and some cap space flexibility to make any move he needs to make.

Sounds like Bartholomew has a serious back injury, I doubt he'll make any appearance for the team this year and might be cut when he recovers with an injury settlement.

The Bartholomew pick was my least favorite & my disdain for the pick has only increased since. With that final pick Kwesi had the option of improving depth at TE3 or RB3. He chose TE3. To me, this was poor use of limited draft picks as RBs are the more valuable position. They're more frequently injured, which makes depth at that position more important & generally are used more frequently than TEs.
Let's take a look at the RBs that were drafted after Pick #202:
Pick #223 - Seattle drafted Damien Martinez, Miami (probably not a realistic option for us as his game is too similar to Mason's who is under contract in 2026)
Pick #228 - KC drafted Brashard Smith, Texas
Pick #236 - Jax drafted LeQuint Allen, Syracuse
Pick #245 - Wash. drafted Jacory Croskey Merritt, Arizona
If you look at the mocks leading up to the 2025 draft, all four of these RBs were projected to be selected higher & fell mostly due to the tremendous depth in the RB class.
