If you could.....
#1
Soliciting thoughts on a couple of scenarios passing through my head:

  1. If you could trade Tom Johnson to a team needing a pass rushing DT for a 5th round draft pick, would you?  My thoughts, Tom Johnson is 33 years old and probably in the last year with the Vikings.  He is a poor run defender but very good rusher.  Trading him would permit the Vikes to keep some of the younger players at DT.
  2. If you had to choose between Beavers or Sirles on the Oline, who do you keep?  Sirles is more game tested and have greater versatility but we have seen his upside.  (I can't believe I am writing this) Beavers is just scratching his potential.  I also think Sparano is more invested in Beavers.
  3. If you could trade Boone for a 4th round draft pick, would you?  I don't think Boone has played particularly well this preseason (opinions differ on this).   You could slide Eason into his spot but then you loose valuable depth on the line -- and Vikes fans know how valuable depth is on the line.
  4. If you could trade Jarius Wright to the Pats for any draft pick, would you.  Just throwing that open because of the recent Pats injury.
  5. Ham or Hodges?  If you had to choose between a 4th TE or a fullback, who do you keep?  I think Ham has the additional benefit of special team player and I have not noticed Hodges on ST to date.  I still think Hodges has upside that Ham does not have and I think Morgan can do almost the same things as Ham on offense.
Looking forward to everyone's thoughts.

  1. Yes. Main reason would be to save Zimmer from himself. No idea why a 3T that is god awful against the run keeps getting 1st team reps when stopping the run is this Defense's biggest weakness.
  2. Beavers has progressed, but that was from looking exactly like the worst ranked OT in college to looking like a fringe PS Player. Sirles may not have a high ceiling but his floor is currently much higher than Willie's.
  3. No. Some of us have watched many plays in slo-mo and see a League Average player. You don't trade that even if that player ends up on your bench.
  4. Yes. Wright broke a Rule of Zimmer's and will likely never emerge from his doghouse. Get something while you can and give Coley and Adams longer looks while also keeping an eye on the Waiver Wire.
  5. Hodged. Need all the Redzone weapons you can get on this Offense.
Good questions Oracle!

5.  i think the question is Ham or Kyle Carter?  i think Hodges is on the team and in this senario I take Carter.  Ham should be ok on PS.

1.  In a heart beat.  TJohnson is easily replaced.  BRob, and the plethora of 3techs.
2. Sirles without knowing what Beavers has shown this year.  Quality depth.  Sirles can get by at tackle and we have Hill and many other promising guards.
3.  That is a bit tougher.  a 4th is borderline.
4. Yes, IMO he is going to be released.
5. Hodges.  RBs like Ham are easily found.

This is my gut emotional reaction also.  Why solidify the [hateful] SB favorites.

    1. If there is one place we can take a hit in depth, it is d-line.  Truth be told though, I'm not excited about the thought of a fifth rounder.  I'm not saying he is worth more than that, but could we swing a backup for the o-line?  Either an older player or take a chance on another guy like Easton?
[*]If you had to choose between Beavers or Sirles on the Oline, who do you keep?  Sirles is more game tested and have greater versatility but we have seen his upside.  (I can't believe I am writing this) Beavers is just scratching his potential.  I also think Sparano is more invested in Beavers.
    1. I have no problem with Sirles.  He isn't a world beater, but I thought he did "ok" last year and if I recall correctly moved around to different positions.  The Beavers pick still has me scratching my head.
[*]If you could trade Boone for a 4th round draft pick, would you?  I don't think Boone has played particularly well this preseason (opinions differ on this).   You could slide Easton into his spot but then you loose valuable depth on the line -- and Vikes fans know how valuable depth is on the line.
    1. Boone's biggest problem is "his ass can't cash, the checks his mouth writes." Could he hold Hutchinson's jock?  No, but he isn't as bad as some would have you believe.  If he had better help around him (hopeful for that to happen this year with the new additions) he would be better.  Likewise, if he focused more on play and less on running his mouth....that would probably help too.
[*]If you could trade Jarius Wright to the Pats for any draft pick, would you.  Just throwing that open because of the recent Pats injury.
    1. Give me a half a bag of Lays chips and they can have him.  I would love to know what he did to get in the dog house, but there aint no sense in having him around if he "can't" play.
[*]Ham or Hodges?  If you had to choose between a 4th TE or a fullback, who do you keep?  I think Ham has the additional benefit of special team player and I have not noticed Hodges on ST to date.  I still think Hodges has upside that Ham does not have and I think Morgan can do almost the same things as Ham on offense.
    1. I think we are going to be happy with Hodges, and I don't see a need for a FB, when like previous people said we have Morgan.
Looking forward to everyone's thoughts.
Thanks for putting this together.  Always great to see other peoples thoughts!

Definitely. Do it for a 6th, a 7th...Johnson WAS a good pass rusher, 2-3 years ago.

If you had to choose between Beavers or Sirles on the Oline, who do you keep?
Tough one, because I do think Beavers is improving and could become a good RT. Hope we can keep both, and I think they will actually be looking hard at keeping 10 OL if possible.

If you could trade Boone for a 4th round draft pick, would you?Nope. Boone is not as good as we wish he was, but better than most of our OL.
If you could trade Jarius Wright to the Pats for any draft pick, would you.ANY pick?? Like their #1?? Sure! But for a 6th or better, sure.

Ham or Hodges?
Hodges. I like Ham but I really think Shurmur has no need for a FB and we will be watching the waiver wire for someone more like Sankey.
