TE Gavin Bartholomew: have any chance at all?
#1
Not a bad athletic score at the Combine, ranked 7th amongst all TEs. Was a team captain at Pitt. Willing blocker and runs hard and aggressive with the ball in his hands after the catch. Some of these guys pop and others just disappear to never be seen again. Obviously expectations are low considering where he was drafted. I have no real feel other than watching his highlights you feel his energy. I think someone else mentioned UDFA Ben Yurosek as a possible surprise, but his measurables are even worse than Bartholomew.

He's replacing the legend who is Johnny Mundt. You never want to be the man who replaces THE man.

He looks like a very athletic and versatile TE from his highlights. Addison who played with him and who doesn't seem like someone who would give false praise gave him a very emphatic recommendation and is very high on him. I think he definitely makes the roster, impresses in camp and sees significant action this year.

Wish we would've drafted a RB there, but KOC loves him some TEs. I know nothing about Bartholomew and so I expect nothing. Yurosek has some sleeper qualities, had a higher consensus ranking and is likely being paid quite a bit more than Bartholomew, so I think he's got a chance to beat him out. This will be a straight up 1v1 battle with the loser going home.

When you watch his highlights, he's a pretty good athlete for a TE. Good speed, nice feet, shows some toughness taking on tackles and fighting for extra yards. Had a sweet hurdle over a defender in his highlights. Was a team captain his senior year at Pittsburgh.

I think it'll come down to can he block and will he play special teams? With Hock and Oliver getting paid, it's going to come down to the dirty work as the 3rd TE. Yurosek looks stiff and a poor man's version of Johnny Mundt. I think the upside is much higher with Bartholomew from what I've seen.

IIRC we carried 4 TEs in the past didnt we? The first 2 are obvious, but is there a 3rd lock I am unaware of that makes this a one or the other conversation? Is Ricci assumed to be the 3rd guy?
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

I think we typically keep 3 active and 1 on the PS. So yes, I guess both could make it.

Ha.  I was going to say Nick Muse.
Weren't those two somewhat interchangeable anyhow?

Muse could only dream to be a Mundt.

What is with the sudden fame of Mundt?  Other than a quintessential TE name, what did he accomplish?
